Flashlights

Very nice! How pocketable do you find it? I opted for the mini thinking it would work better in my pocket, but with the different clip configuration I never could tell on the full sized KO. I still really like mini- I just wish it had a lower light setting.

Post a pic/review of that Cu Maratac when you get it. It looks like a sweet light. I have heard mention of them, but not any details. Also heard that HDS is getting lights out a little faster...good news for us.

Ever hear of Maratac Cr123 copper ? Looks robust and some say it's like holding a roll of quarters in your hand. Three modes 1.8 - 50 - 260 lumens Cree X P G twisty. Anyhow it's en route along with a Sunwayman 11R Ti Sirius picked up on the exchange. Please Henry ship my HDS 200 Rotary!
So far all of the torches in the dogpile work fine, some finer than others. I would put my HDS 120 clicky on the top of the pile thus far.
Seems as though I've acclimated myself to the robust Hinderer standard which has become the benchmark for measuring quality of other products.

New custom on the right, Ti Pocket Rocket. Thinner than the HDS, but longer by almost 1". 4 to 5 times brighter than both and has the light quality of the Haiku. Pretty awesome so far, but we'll see how I feel about the extra length

I have both the Maratac Copper "123" and "AAA", and have only run RCR's in both. They both function very well! VERY bright for their size. Both use PWM to control the lower modes (the AAA only has low and high, while the 123 has low med high). One gripe I have though, is the 123 model needs another round of threads or two on the head, in my opinion. I carry the AAA on my keychain, and it's identical to the iTP A3 EOS (which O-Light makes now). So it's pretty small. And with RCR, wow...Get one! I highly recommend either.. if anyone wants any more info on either, I'll gladly help!

I'll purchase very few pocket lights sub-HDS pros for awhile.

Going to give the flashlight market time to incorporate cutting-edge LED and electronics technologies to better meet my wish-list of characteristics / features.

@Luck!!! Is that custom piece so long because of the cell(s)? Is it running a single CR123/RCR123?

If it's running a single cell, please let us know runtimes after some experience with it. If it's running multiple cells, I'm less interested. It's easy to get a bright light with decent runtimes when using multiple cells.

It can run single rcr123/cr123 using a sleeve it comes with, but I'm running a single 18650 with it. I doubt it will have very good run times. I was going for crazy brightness with this one. Gets ridiculously hot after a minute. I would recommend a haiku, but not this new one. Although the extra length makes it pretty comfortable, the extra weight is a no go.

I'm 4-6 weeks out on an HDS EDC Rotary 200! Thanks to Rubi, N2K, Jensen, and FO for commending them on being such great lights.... It inspired me to get one :)

Now just the wait for that bad boy! Can't wait to play with that sweet light

Awesome! Congrats KJ. I need to save up for a bit but I really want to get a 200 rotary myself. I don't know jack about flashlights. I only know what I read in this thread. I figured if its good enough for Rubi, N2K and FO then it's good enough for me. I absolutely love mine. Im sure that you will too.

Lol! Yeah I don't know much about lights either... Just what comes from you fellas :) I just love gadgets! Might as well get the good stuff we're used too

I spoke with Henry at length yesterday about his HDS lights, very nice owner/maker. Same outgoing personality as Rick and Rob. Without pulling the trigger on a custom (not yet) I believe the build quality is what we are accustomed to. After much studying of this topic, I've realized how little I knew, so many factors to consider other than total lumen output! Like they say sometimes less is more. Henry assured me we will see our back orders very soon (fingers crossed).

Meluck that collection is so sweet.

If only Rick was building torches we would be showing them off here along with his Knives and other Hinderer products, and not talking about non Hinderer products. Now posting a pictures of a Hinderer FDE DLC 200 lumen rotary flashlight that would be very cool!

I think I'm in Rubi's camp now, I'll use what I have and more comparisons of other flashlights I'll take to other venues. This has been a very enLIGHTing thread for me.

Yep, lumen this / lumen that is common from a lot of flashaholics and light makers. But it's a good talking point when describing about what a light puts out, etc. But color temperature come into play also.

Then you get the camp that swears by HCRI vs. those that love a cool search-light / white-out...I find use for both in different situations.

thanks FO, I spoke with him before Thanksgiving about my custom rotary as well, I'm thinking late January if i'm lucky.....the thing is he's who he is and he does things his way in his own time, and his demand allows him to do that, but also if you read his data specs on how he makes those lights, and how he regulates the voltage from the batteries to control the lumens and the led temperatures etc he's the mad scientist of light from a pocket source! My HICRI 120 is like a freaking menorah! my old aa Maratac stainless would eat a battery every three weeks, but my 120 HICRI is twice as bright and still cranking out the lumens after six weeks.... Let me know what you think of the copper 123 Maratac, I've been carrying that stainless aa for 6years every day, and it was N2K and this thread that opened my eyes to the HDS and made me shelf it! The reason I carried that aa so long was the availability of a aa battery, the sturdiness of the stainless, the tough glass lens that resists chemicals, the tail standing ability that lights a ceiling in a strangers home during ambulance calls, the survivability after endless drops onto concrete floors etc... so far the HDS trumps all, can't wait to try a rotary...

My apologies to all for the spending on lights...

I try to save you guys money and say buy the HDS 200 rotary first. But of course the wait makes that difficult.

HDS lights have a list of things about them that get on my nerves, but got enough right that I recommend getting one and then deciding if it's for you.

No apologies needed, it's because of standards like yours that push whats currently accepted to the new technological breakthroughs, and those breakthroughs got us to the moon!

I typed up a paragraph in response to this...then deleted. I'll just say thank you.

Ok mabe i'm a little too generous with the praise.... but the truth is too many people are happy with what ever is offered, and settle for what is accepted as "best".... I'll give current iPhone as an example.... IMO The 5s is a sad offering, granted the first three gens were tuff to beat, but you get the point........ Someone has to call out the King for walking around naked, otherwise were all stuck looking at hairy bellies, and stretch marks! Innovation comes from challenges driven by the need for a better mousetrap, and the rejection of the normal standard....... otherwise we'd be stuck with the old school tin tube with the red lens cap and two Ray-o-vac batteries....

My Fenix PD35.

Wowcoop and N2K all good stuff, man with his desire to push the envelope will always seek what is new and better, isn't this how we all met on this particular forum.

I have recommended that Fenix to others that were looking for a light with its features, etc at their price-point.

My desire is a light running one CR123 or the rechargable RCR123 /16340 / etc. with outputs like those of 18650 / dual CR123 lights. I will gladly give up a reasonable amount of runtime for performance and reliability.
