Flashlights

Wowcoop, I think with your occupation the requirements most probably dwarf what most of us really need. The Maratac is a fun light ( and moderately priced), that being said, I would not hesitate recommending the M11R Sirius, but realistically the HDS in the flavor that most closely aligns with your needs still remains top of the list. But wait, I think you already have that base covered, damn these things, think I'm a latent flashaholic, there, I said it :)

I too suffer from Flashiholism, I've been battling it for years, one of these days I'll post pics of my Electrolumens collection thats 9 years old..... thanks for the compliment FO but I have to point out that everybody in the general public is in need of a quality light, because when the lights go out in the department store full of people, and were all in the dark, it will be a pocket light that gets everybody organized and out in an orderly fashion w/o trampling over each other in the dark..... I know we all believe those exit lights will work and guide us out, but i've seen them fail time and time again... true story, a few years ago my wife and I flew into Antiqua for our destination wedding, and the night we landed the generator at the airport ran out of fuel at 1AM, my little Maratac was the only light at our gate for over 20 minutes, everybody there signed in under the awning lit by my aa pocket light tail standing on the counter lighting up the ceiling over the signing book.....strangers came up to us for a week thanking us during our stay... So the point is that when the lights go out were all in major need of light :)

As to the HDS I've got to say it's a winner, used it last monday on Ski Patrol, the low dim setting was perfect for checking pupils on an injured skier...... nice to have a light that is dependable in cold weather, can't tell you how many $100 dollar plus lights I've bought that fail when I'm covered in ice while were making snow! Gets embarrassing when my partner is holding his functioning eveready yellow plastic light and looking at me with the "what did you forget your flashlight?" look... it was 7deg on the hill on monday and the HDS 120HCRI went right to low dim as commanded, no problem.....I do love that thing!

That's great story wowcoop. That makes me think that I need to start carrying my flashlights more often. I really haven't thought of it that way, thanks :)

Can't wait for my HDS Rotary. I'm counting down the days. Plus it's good to hear that your HDS is working for you up on the snowy slopes in the freezing.

Oh... And I must confess. I'm not a flashaholic by any means, but I do enjoy great gadgets. And I appreciate you guys sharing great info and experiences with everyone.

Evryone should have a Knife and a light where ever they go........to me both are mandatory,,,have had both in my EDC since I was 17yrs old, when i first volunteered as a firefighter....back in the days when we stood on the back of the truck and HELD ON!

Wowcoop, your interest in quality gear benefits far more than yourself...I hope others read this and better understand why we are drawn to the items we carry. It's not for photo-bragging.

Never thought about going anywhere without carrying the best possible gun, knife, flashlight, shoes, etc that I could afford. On SWAT operations failure of any equipment could have grave consequences. The same principle should guide one's daily carry items as N2K also pointed out.

Your example Woowcoop demonstrates that principal. The adage " your lack of preparation doesn't constitute an emergency on mine"

+++++100

That back step reference made me smile, I remember those days...

yeah I was always a little bummed back then cause I couldn't swing the coin for a leather New Yorker............. (just to clarify for the uninformed a "Leather New Yorker" is an old school leather fire helmet, the kind you think of when you think of a fireman.......back then they were over $300.00, now i'm sure there more.)

I would have a difficult time making myself turn left at the end of my driveway if I knew my pockets were sans xm18, flashlight, wallet and cell phone.
Truth be told, I could live without the phone and the wallet...

Another +100, although my carry permit is in my wallet, so it's a necessary evil.

Hi all, I hate to be "that guy" but I just went through this thread and got MANY suggestions. However, I am asking for your patience and forgiveness in asking what I am about to ask because the info I got is simply too vast and I want to narrow it down a bit. I am looking for a light that I will EDC. My only other light worth mentioning is a surefire E2D LED defender. I have had it for a few years and I carry it with me when I go for walks at night and when I go camping. I also use it often around the house. Being a 2 cell light, it is simply too big for me to carry every day. Here is what I am looking for: Single CR 123, 200+ lumens on high, good quality and reliable, Multiple Output (at least 2), pocket clip. I know that HDS is a favorite and I should probably just get one of those but my kicker is my $100.00 budget (give or take $50.00). I have been looking at the 4 7s quark line, Sunwayman M11R (high end of my budget), Olight M10 Maverick, Lens Light Mini (another on the high end), Fenix PD22 and a few others. Are there any suggestions I am missing? Thanks for helping me spend more money:)

Thanks Rubi! Funny thing is I was looking through reviews on other sites and found that exact light too. Thanks for the reco.

You're Welcome :) It's a nice light. I think I gave my Sons them last year for Christmas and they EDC them and love them.
I have mine on my workbench and still carry it when I leave from the basement.

Gave my Oldest Son this one (His Girlfriend is all about saving the planet so....)

Nice light though. He still carries it.

Also take a look at the Olight S10-L2. I haven't read anything more than the spec sheet, but reviews are out there.

It's one I considered buying recently just for grins...but I already know how my experience with mass-produced lights goes, so I haven't purchased one.

RRT-01 or V11R.

Both closer to $100, but both under. Single 123, infinitely adjustable up to claimed 500 (doubtful, but definitely over 300).

Forgot to mention. Own one and gave one as a gift last year. Both still working great. Nice light.

Ahhh! Musta been typing while N2K posted. Great little light. The low is fantastic, tail stands, whopping output and a two-way pocket clip that is great for hat brim mounting on a walk. I used the magnetic tailcap more often than I thought I would (great feature)
Only thing I'd say it did once and it was sorta funny... it turned on in my pocket once because of the side switch and I thought my knife had opened and stabbed me because I could feel pain. The light got so HOT it burned my leg. No big deal, I just learned to pay closer attention.

Well, I have looked them all up and based on the tail clicky/variable output as well as size, price, reviews, I am leaning towards the sunwayman v11r. Anyone care to share their experience with this light? I understand that there is seemingly an unlimited selection in this category so I appreciate your thoughts and experiences!

No experience... But hear a lot of people enjoy the Sunwayman v11r. Lots of great reviews and debates :)
