Flea market finds

Kim and I had such a haul at the estate sale couple weeks ago, then found a few more things this weekend. And some had asked about the non-knife things we found also. So, going to try to post everything here, including some pictures of the knives as they're cleaned up. Will picture some with other items we found.

This was the first day at the estate sale couple weeks ago. It was fun, because they dropped prices an additional 10% each day. So, you could risk not getting items and come back a few days later trying to get a better price. Which we did in some instances ;). Going to take a hot minute to get all these posted, so if you're interested bear with me.

Left to right, from the top: 1) 1998 Case #18 3-blade med Stockman 2) 1976 Case #25 1/2 small Coke bottle 3)Utica Kutmaster 4) Case 6227 made between 1940-1964. Teaser, this will make its maiden voyage in my pocket tomorrow. 5) John Primble Stockman. I can't wait to clean this up 6) Schrade, Walden NY tang stamp. Small Stockman. Neat knife, but the point of the clip is bent like Aladdin's shoe! Open to suggestions if anyone know how to fix. 7) Camillus #66 in French Ivory. 8) Buck 305 9) Kim the Patron Saint of Lost Causes I don't know Imperial maybe? She had to have it. Bolster is missing on pile side. Pattern is weird, the main sits behind the pen and my big fingers can't get the nail nick 10) Gerber Silver Knight.

This was the 40% off day. I called the scale on the Schrade Waldens "bone" in earlier post, but they're all jigged Delrin. Fooled me till I started cleaning them. The Trapper, Barlow, Texas Jack, and Kamp King have all now been posted in the "What Traditional Knife are You Carrying Today" thread. The Schrade Walden 834 (No. 6 below) is the one that I posted in "Beverages and Blades" yesterday. Considering where it started I was amazed how it finished.

1) 1995 Case Trapper jigged bone. Satin SS blades. Surface rust cleaned right up, unused with factory edge; 2) Opened up box that said "6318 Stockman CV". Nope. This nice little 1998 "Limited Edition" Case Barlow in black jigged bone was inside. Polished SS blades Surface rust, cleaned right up, unused with factory edge; 3) 2011 Case Texas Jack in black synthetic. SS blades. Wiped it out and oiled it. Unused, factory edge: 4) 2012 Case Peanut in yellow Delrin. SS blades. Wiped it and oiled it. Unused, factory edge; 5) Imperial Prov U.S.A. Kamp King. Cleaned it, oiled it. Again, appears unused with factory edge; 6) Schrade Walden Med Stockman. Kim's project knife. Lots of blade left, believe it will clean up well; 7) Schrade Walden Sm Stockman. Blades are well used, but the bone on this was so pretty we took it anyway.

Thursday I was working 20 minutes away. I had seen the Buck, went back and was shocked it was still there at 60% off: 1) Buck 102 Custom Dave Yellowhorse c. 1988-89 I believe. Just couldn't let this go to a bad home. It's mint, factory edge. All I did was polish the tarnish off the brass and wipe the blade; 2) Schrade USA 7-OT. This was unexpected. For several days I though the two $25 sheaths were just sheaths, realized yesterday there were knives inside. This was in the second. Functionally in great shape, still very smooth and locks up tight, original sheath. Appears to have been barely used. Believe this is a carbon blade, will test soon. Should clean up nicely; 3) Imperial Prov U.S.A. pen knife. Great little knife, but for some reason when the clip is fully opened it falls inward. Not sure if it's fixable, but for $4 it was too cool to leave there; 4) Case Caliber lockback. This was actually a gift for young woman we hired part-time last year, she's working and going to college. Has been out in the field with me several times in the last few weeks. She's been using my knives and talking about how much she would like to buy a knife. Graduates this semester, so Kim and I gave her this as a pre-graduation gift. I thought she was going to cry when I gave it to her.

80% off day, next to last day of the estate sale: 1) Moore Maker 2305 punch Stockman. Was in pretty rough shape, particularly the horn. It was a dull grey. Can't believe how well it came back, wish I'd remembered to take a "Before" picture. Should be a good user; 2) Kabar 1187. Doesn't look like it was ever used. Kim loved the handles, it's in her stash now. Think these were made like 1980-84? Not sure; 3) Buck Toothpick. Going to see if I can find a shield for it; 3) Ulster Boy Scouts of America Knife. Blade is etched. This one was in great shape except for some scratches and a couple chips on the spear; 4) Kabar 1184. Very cool knife with carbon steel blades. Haven't had a chance to track down vintage yet, but from what I've found so far I think it's a 50's to 60's.

The Ulster and Kabar 1187 I think have both been in the Traditional carry thread.

Were still looking for a furniture piece, so went again this weekend. Found furniture and a few fun knives. Kim's new wash stand below, along with a Klein Hawksbill, Schrade U.S.A. 34OT, and what appears to be a stag-handled Parker USA pen knife (main is etched "A088").

And my new desk (saw at flea market a few weeks back and finally pulled the trigger) with a Camillus #51 Barlow and a 1964-1969 Case 087 Stockman. I think we're on hiatus for a few weeks after this ha ha. And please excuse the mess, we're in the middle of some remodeling and now some furniture moving!

My daughter and I hit the big monthly flea market yesterday. Here’s my haul:

First, a shout out to Old Engineer Old Engineer ~ I finally found the harness hame that you somehow missed!
Very cool. $10.
View attachment 1189338 Then two virgin oilstones $6.View attachment 1189339 An upholsterer’s hammer that I think will make a good hammer for pinning knife scales-$4.View attachment 1189340
A bunch of nice taps-$10. Which is cool, because the last time I needed one to fix a part in my lawn tractor, I didn’t have the size I needed.View attachment 1189341
Knives! What about knives, you ask?
- vintage Keen Kutter. TWO broken blades.
-Camillus 72. Asking too much for it’s condition. Ditto for the two steel handled Camillus military utility knives. Comically too much, actually.
-Sadly, these were the notables that might have made good users. The rest of what I saw were not worth scrap metal prices. And I am not that picky!

So, to round out this post, let me show you some good using knives that I got in the past, at this same flea market:View attachment 1189342 Camillus 68 premium stockman -$6
Camillus 72 Whittler with BSA shield -$10
Camillus Tip Top Barlow -$32.

Good haul for sure. Nice to have the right tap when you need it, and the hame is cool. The stones look great, especially what appears to be a ceramic razor hone. I have one about 3" X 5" that I find ideal for finishing pocket knife blades, I strop on the palm of my hand after, and Zing!

Also, those knives you got there in the past are making me want to get out to a flea market, and garage sale or two. I'm a big fan of Camillus, since I got my first not long ago.

That's a nice haul. You can never have too many taps! The hammer is wonderful, as is the Tip Top Camillus.. Just so happens I took this pic yesterday evening as we were moving furniture. This is all of the knives we found the last few weeks. Minus the Kutmaster scout knife I forgot was in my pocket! Except for the far right column, they're all from the same sale. Display case is a flea market find too. A few of these to clean up yet, but I've been sidetracked rearranging our house with the furniture we found :D. Will see if I can work some of that into a few photos on the Whatcha Carrying Today thread.

Maybe this I should look for Estate Sales instead of flea markets! It is rare to find so many knives in such good condition.

I meant to tell you... we’ve been married since 1981, and almost every single piece of furniture in our house is an antique bought at flea markets, estate sales, and resale shops. In fact, I bought our old oak bed at this same flea market in 1981. Good old hickory, oak, mahogany, walnut, and cherry stuff, put together by hand. No particle board, no stapled butt joints, this stuff was made to last.
Look forward to a closer look at the cutlery you’ve found!

That's a great story, and it's the kind of stuff we like. You'd love my desk. The legs are all carved from a single piece of maple, etc. No one makes furniture like that anymore. Kim and I rebuilding/renovating for different reasons, we just had our 3rd anniversary on Friday. The ways we got here weren't much fun but we're enjoying the ride now :). Everything in the pics below is from flea market last weekend and this Saturday. Excuse the paint, that's next on the list ha!
