flea market finds

I slipped off to a small indoor flea market yesterday and I'm glad I did. I picked these up, a made in USA Old Timer, Case Sodbuster Jr, and butcher knife that if you tilt the blade just right you can faintly see Russell on the blade.

Hi fishiker -

Here is my FMF from today - I finally found something at a flea market!

A Spyderco Merlin Clipit C21 - it is the older model with the narrow integral pocket clip -

My $3.00 Leatherman PST, and an old wrench I got for $0.50 to hang on the shop wall with my other old tools.

Nice John -

I looked over a "leatherman" but it was not a real leatherman so I passed on it.

The Spyderco cost me $5, the fellow asked for $3, and I said let's call it 5.

I am going to put it on the bay, as these seem to go for around $60.

Had to run some errands today, and found a small antique shop we had never been in. Had the usual junker knives, and glassware. The lady asked what I was interested in, and I told her old books and Boy Scout stuff. She went in a drawer and came back with this stuff and more. Old brass case compass, Silva Boy Scout compass, bakelite matchcase with a compass in the top, and my favorite, a 1936 Boy Scout Diary, that has not been written in. Total for all, plus a peace sign necklace for my grandaughter, was $12.

I see a lot of compasses at the flea market for good prices. I thought of John when I saw a huge metal flashlight - it had to have taken 6 d batteries.

It had a large abrasion on it that eroded through the metal, so I passed on buying it.

Unfortunately I think that flea markets are mostly junk that would not sell (or was sold and cherry picked) at estate sales etc.

It would be very cool to hit estate sales and auctions - last time I did that I picked up some great old Bucks for a steal!

Picked up a nice Hudson Bay "Point" blanket, wool, made in England (its the one with the different colored stripes) and a nice fleece sleeping bag for $5 each. Fleece lined goatskin work gloves, new, for $6, a Tramontina machete with sheath for $12 and a Marbles machete with sheath ( has some very cool accessory pockets) for $15. Both of the machetes are "Latin style".

Productive day at the flea/resale shop!

Hi Sean -

Cool - post some pics when you have time.

We only have the one flea market per month down here, and it is usually all the same old junk.

I want a RN9, then I'll be waiting for the ZT -777 to become available.

I'll be selling a few of my titanium folders soon, just getting too many knives and feeling like I need to thin out the collection.

Bumping this one back up. I have some new finds to post later on today. Curious if anyone has some recents treasures to add?

Although I haven't been out to the flea markets for many weeks, I did find this stuff a while back...

I have a copy of Stalking the Wild Asparagus but I have never seen the other 3 books in print. I would love to find a copy of the Beach combing book. I grew up on the beach and love to find stuff on the shoreline especially food!

Nice stuff Glenn - that carving knife is very cool.

Jeff - I have a hand-crank grinder similar to that, is that other picture showing an antique edger?

billy - what kind of stuff do you find on the beach?
