Flu outbreak....

Haha, calm down.

Fact is you nor I know what is going on. Stats at this point are subjective at best. Numbers for Avian/SAR's are better known and are an example of what can happen.
Is this the beginning of something bigger? Could be who knows. Fact is misinformation is common and I never said this is something to panic over just outright concerned.

This is not regular flu and may turn into nothing but then again.....

:rolleyes:I dont panic as I am prepared as best I can, just keeping an eye out for updates as we all should.

FYI, I work in health care, if any disease goes pandemic I WONT! be going to work to help others and I am not alone by a long shot. The benefit of knowing too much. Sleep well.

Geez Skammer, you have some good knowledge and insight and then you make comments like this.

It sounds the same as complaining that you have to get out of your warm bed and go on a "SAR mission" because somebody was ill-prepared or stupid. Now you say, despite working in health care, those in need can fend for themselves.

I hope you are in admin. and others are not depending on you in a crisis.

And upwards of 20 million (globally) died in the 1918 Spanish Flu because it was particularly virulent,

Are you sure this didn't have anything to do with poor medical care and sparsity of vaccines?

You raise a very good point dougo, and I should probably do more research before stating it as concrete fact. But I'm pretty sure that while those factors contributed to the severity of the pandemic, it was the specific nature of that strain which really made it a nasty pandemic. I could be wrong...now you have me doing research... :D

I think we're in a little better shape than the 1918 folks...

I think so too, but that shouldn't make us complacent either. But yes, I agree with you guyon, we are in better shape to combat something like this than we were back then.

Actually our medical preparation for a pandemic is rather thin.

The hospitals will be a capacity instantly and you will be pretty much on your own.

Available vaccines will be used on our leaders, health care professionals, public safety personnel, etc. - not the general public.

If the bird flu pandemic happens, it will be grim.

I find it amazing how an intended good post turns into what it has.

How about some goodwill here?
Thanks, I'll second that. What has caught my attention on this one is the reaction of the authorities. A lot of people die of the flu every year, but generally speaking those deaths merit little if any press. My plan of action will be to prepare for two weeks of absolute minimum contact with other humans which can be implemented as necessary, until then business as usual with my ear to the ground. My wife is a safety officer at a hospital, so we should be well apprised of events as they unfold.

Ummm, in light of the thread and it's topic, what's your point?

Anyone else find humor in the fact that ignorance is related only to one's ability to track a b-ball game and has nothing to do with one's inability to compose a well-punctuated and spell-checked writing?

I'm used to seeing that kind of hypocritical attitude.

Thank you,
and thank you!

Clarity of thought and expression should be a concomitant of seriousness of purpose.
Taking responsibility for oneself and one's own does not automatically require shoving everyone else overboard. :D

Guys lets follow Dougo's leed and ignore. Keep are tempers in check.

The photo was posted to point out selfless acts of brave people. If Skimmerhorn wants to speculate on why, how, or whome the photo is; let him speculate by himself.

Tony makes a good point my friends.

I don't have the details, but I get the feeling he pushes paper.

England expects that every man will do his duty.

Some will, some won't. Courage cannot be mandated. Societies survive on the strength of their most committed members.

Reading this thread, we see many who will account for themselves well.

I go above and beyond, put myself at risk regularly and owe nobody as my cosmic karma is well in balance. I have given well more than I have taken.

SAR missions and keeping your kids breathing is my job and passion and I am happy to do it but make no mistake my kids and life come first my friend. The rest I let natural selection take care of. Memories are short when nearly the entire system bailed in New Orleans and it will happen again. It has nothing to do with courage but rather priorities.
If you think your health care system is not human you are sorrily mistaken and are in for a rude of wakening when/if the time comes.

Sleep well.
