Follow up on my first small Seb. overly stiff action . . .

The warranty is nice when it's needed..I haven't really needed it but occasionally use the spa service..but then again, I don't pay shipping. 20 minute drive in traffic I guess. Most don't have that choice, but you can guess that when knives are sold and many sold multiple times, they can and do see the same knife for service..Not that they would ever know it without something making it unique. Buyers can be a fickle bunch so you see the same knives change hands multiple times with new owners wanting to leave their own uniqueness..Off to the spa. Really, even with shipping, it's fairly cheap to get something back that looks like it was just made.

There is a reason I am active here in this subforum besides owning many of CRK's knives. I'm still the CRK subforum mod, but was made a super mod about a year or so ago. Please don't confuse the moderator title with some of my commentary..Especially in this subforum. Still very much a fan of the brand and would have the same comments without the titles.

Pic because knifes (sic) Stale pic..but many are still around and have some new friends.

Holy Mackerel! (I'm bowing down now). A true CRK Aficionado . . Respect

I'm picturing this one right in the middle of your flock: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...-chad-nichols-raindrop-damascus-bnib.1572446/

If only..Still recovering from a car accident in late January.. Mostly recovered physically, but fiscally..not so much. Alot of grail knives have come and gone and I get to watch. Unfortunately.

Sorry to learn of your accident, but glad you are just about recovered. Your health is more important than money. You’ll recover fiscally, maybe just not as fast as you would like. But at least the economy is moving in the right direction. Hopefully, you might benefit in some way from a rising economy.

We must be pretty close to being neighbors.

We must be pretty close to being neighbors.

We are not too far apart at all.. At least your IP suggests that ;)
Live in Meridian and work in Boise/Garden City.

Pretty close. I live off Eagle road on the Boise side and work on Federal Way.

So wait, you bought 5 CRK knives without knowing that there were just bronze washers inside?

Sure, no problem. Its a good question for you asking for proof
. Here is one I shipped back to benchmade

Sure, and thats a good question to ask me about proof. No problem. Funny thing about these delivery shipping contracts. I ask my secretary to ship the cheapest way. We only have two choices overnight or 1-2 day. Most of the time when she keys it in to print the label, its cheaper for overnight than it is for two day. Go figure!

But check out CRK's postage rates I just took a pic of on their website. My last sebenza's back spacer is gold but its fading. So I ordered another one on CRK. $5.00 for the spacer, $2.66 for postage. Fair enough. But travel down their rates. Especially check out what they get for shipping a $5 spacer next day early delivery that I can ship the same for $4.50 . . . if the pic it too small . . . they get like $116! Still think there is no profit in their shipping.

The bottom line is most consumers are unaware that many companies yu buy a product from their profit margins are so tight due to their competition they are making most of their revenues "off your shipping". Im not saying this is the way CRK is making their profits. They are not gouging us on parts. $5 for a gold andodized OEM back spacer is pretty damn fair IMO as is their $2.66 shipping. But Im sure they are making up some of their free spa labor warranty work with a decent margin on their shipping. From what I can see knowing what I can ship for.

This pic below is fedex ground 7 day. I'll take a pic of our overnight or 1-2 days as its near the same thing!

Here is a 2 day fedex that went back to knifecenter: $4.47

I think the point that several members have tried to make has slipped by you. You're a little upset with the shipping rates that CRK is charging to ship a knife to you, yet every CRK you've bought has been secondary market. CRK isn't gaining any revenue from you yet still offering incredible warranty service for the washer you crimped. You should be singing their praises not grousing about the cost to return a knife to you.

Secondary market is great; I buy a lot of knives here on the Exchange. Unless the seller is taking the money from you to buy a new CRK, CRK recognizes none of the revenue. I try to mix up my knife purchases between new and used so that I'm directly supporting the knife makers I like. I promise you, CRK ain't getting fat off selling washers and padding shipping charges.

I just had a CRK Mnandi arrive from a seller at my office by USPS in a small box. Came to $10.20 with sig guarantee ($3).
So $17.50 including sig guarantee is not so far off. $10 extra but you are also getting the spa service for free.
I commented that knowing what I know now rather than lose my knife for 4-6 weeks and the average person will pay $27 round trip postage I’d rather learn to do any needed adjustments myself.
My thread was more aimed at newer or potential CRK owners so they may not want to go through my recent experience with buying a CRK used off the forum and immediately have to send it off to the spa losing your new to you purchase for 4-6 weeks.
Most people that spend 4-5 hundred on a CRK may not have EDC back ups to get them through the added expense and long turnaround time.

I was also surprised at the postage as BM used to not charge for return shipping. Now I think its $4.95 for their version of a free spa treatment. They also have a slow turnaround time.

New people: Better to ask more questions before pulling the trigger on a purchase that might turn out to be a catch and release of someone elses problem.

and thx again to the poster that left me a list of questions to ask. I just picked up another PJ 21 an hour ago here for $355. Sweet! but this one was for an office mate who asked me to pick one up here for him.

...Most people that spend 4-5 hundred on a CRK may not have EDC back ups to get them through the added expense and long turnaround time...

I find that statement hard to believe. Most people have at least one pocket knife and if they are buying a $450 CRK as their "only" knife the odds are pretty much 100% they already have a knife, otherwise why buy a premium knife? For example, if you don't already use a car (i.e. drive), you wouldn't be buying a Lambo.

No...

Most people who spend $400-500 on any knife already have more than one (less expensive) backup because they didn't jump into a hobby that they know nothing about:rolleyes:

Where in the hell do you come up with this nonsense?

Because comparing a CRK is like comparing a BMW to a Hyundai.

I just wouldn't want to lose my large seb 21 that I use for EDC for 4-6 weeks, without at least a 2nd one as back up now.
My small seb 21 won't arrive back to me for yet another week.
I have 14 folders now as I started collecting the iconic models first like the BM Osborne 940, The Para 2 etc.

But now that I've been carrying the large seb 21 for EDC, I feel like a father who just walked out on his 13 children

I swear I can hear them still wimpering and crying from inside a cigar box due to being totally ignored when I walk through the door getting home from the office.

Where did you buy your wife from? Besides, richness and wealth come in so many more forms than just money....

So true. But I'd put them in the order of Health, Happiness and Wealth. As they say money doesn't buy happiness and if your health fades . . . that sucks, no matter how much money you have.

So you can't use a benchmade for a few weeks? Really? Wow....

Also the Hyundai will probably last longer and have less repairs than the BMW

If you .

I know, tell me about it :(

The only one I blame is this guy . . . Marcus52AR

On 3/12/18 he posted this in one of my earlier threads (and I didn't even know what a CRK was)

I said:
"thanks. i do have 3 more to get to my 10 rounded off collection. I’ll be watching that knife for sale by individuals thread closely now."
