For some reason, Emerson has never appealed to me.

Mine is also a 2009 folding karambit (tanto version), and I run/work out/ work with the knife in my pocket. And if I lean up against something or lay on that side, sometimes the ring area will need to be bent back to it's original configuration. I'm not disputing your lack of a positive knife experience, I'm telling you that my knife looks just like yours, and the above reasons are why.

No worries, I'm not trying to disprove you either.

Though just one point on clarification - when your liner bends, is it the locking or nonlocking side? The lock side is still Ti, but the nonlocking side is SS.

I've had both bend at one time or another, but the non locking side is the one I usually have to contend with.

Dear Apec,

No harm no foul. You are a gentleman and I truly respect you and your response.
If you do not care to fix it yourself, we will.

My Best Regards,

^You think the Emerson (I think its a 7V)with the brown scales is poorly finished? I'm not meaning that in a jerk way, I'm just genuinely curious about your view of it. I agree some people's reasons for liking things are very amusing, but I'm more interested in people's reasons for not liking things.

To me its damn near perfect, G10 is chamfered evenly and throughout, liners are jimped evenly in the right locations, all the seams are flush, the blade is centered bang on.

My biggest issue is that the liners are misaligned. They aren't of the same depth or height, that to me is a big deal. They should be perfectly aligned.

Exactly.. Looks like my crkt knives.
Great designs, good material, but lots of F/F issues. Like STR said. Great to customize to your liking.

If you don't like the brand why bother posting and trolling in the brand sections? Seems pretty childish to me.

With that said, I have an La Griffe and a Commander. I love them, great knives and I don't see any fit and finish issues.

I own a few Spydies, a few Esee fixed blades, Strider fixed blade and some others. I EDC my Commader as it just feels great and does whatever I need it to do.

If you have never held them I recommend them greatly. Buy one on the secondary market and you will see the quality.

I posted this in the General Knife Discussion. Evidently it got moved.

However, the reason for this post wasn't for me to trash EKI, not at all. I was really just asking Emerson enthusiasts why they love them.

Rough??..your kidding right???

Or course not. Poor fit and finish. No doubt it doesn't affect function, but don't post a picture like that in an attempt to show excelent fit, or finish. It shows precisely the opposite.

My Emerson knives look the same. I have no complaints about them. They do what they're supposed to do. They do what I ask them to do. I'm satisfied with them.

I don't pass them around as museum pieces of examples of stellar fit or finish. They're good enough. They're not excellent. The picture you posted shows relatively poor finish work. It's rough. I am not kidding.

It doesn't mean I don't like the knives, but you made an inaccurate statement and backed up with a picture to prove it wrong. No joke about it.

I personally have never had a less than perfect fit and finish out of all the Emerson knives I have bought.

You really don't think the fit and finish in that picture is less than perfect?

Well, after reading volumes of threads and posts on both the good and the bad of Emerson knives, I've decided to take one for a test drive. While it's not the exact one I was wanting....it's close. I'm picking up a CQC7-SFS to try out. So...we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the reply, its always good to know where the opposite opinion is coming from.

To me perfectly aligned liners aren't even something I notice, to the degree of perfection at least, from my view those are pretty much spot on, but I also never noticed my Delica had a lopsided primary grind until someone else saw a picture, so I may be blind. :o

This reminds me of people complaining about Phill Hartsfield's blade finish. But, every knife he made had the same finish.

Thank you Mr. Emerson, I will keep that in mind.

While I have been a harsh critic, I still look forward to seeing new knife designs from your company. So far I've owned a CQC-10 (traded), a Super Karambit, and a CQC-11 (my favorite).

This is kookoo bananaanananananas man.

some of the opinions in here are like way out there.

I like a rough finished knife so I can tinker with it? Seriously man?

That's like saying, "my brand new $30000 car is falling apart, nothings works, but that's cool 'cause I like working on them."

????????????????????????????

And if we stuck with what was "good enough" we would still be using stones. Constantly trying to find something better drives advancement.

and that emerson wearing the brown pants is poorly finished, thas something I'd expect out of a $30 knife

Hi fella.

I did not say " I like a rough finished knife so I can tinker with it".

I said. "I'm one of those guy that likes to tinker and personalize his own tools , so making the fit and finish perfect on my Emersons is no big deal , I actually enjoy it."
And I do ! Whether the knife came perfect out of the box or had some cosmetic flaws , I like to tinker with mine.

No need to blow bubbles , guvnor. ;)

Well if that works for you buddy it's all good.

I am a complete and utter perfectionist, but only in certain things. Art, writing and knives.

So to me something like that, even something far more miniscule will drive me nuts. It just eats away at my enjoyment of the piece.

If you're happy with your knives fit the way they are, more power to you.

Hey Funkmaster , if EKI does not appeal to you ( as of course , is your prerogative ) why spend precious time in the particular sub-forum arguing your point ?

That's like hating the food at Denny's but still popping in to let them know how much you hate it.

no ?

:)

Well I saw it and thought I would take a gander. I wanted to see why others enjoy them so.

I never said I did not like them, but you are accurate in the observation that they do not appeal to me, but many fine knives are as such. I do not understand Striders either.

The main point was that the handle scales are poorly finished, and that should never be the case at that price point.

It is cool that you like to customize your knives, but I cannot see shrugging of such glaring finishing issues.

But to each his own, who am I to tell you that you should not be satified. :D

Fixed it for ya. ;)

Ha! puns.......

Emerson's never appealed to me that much but I thought that since they had such a fan base I would try one and see for myself.

The first Emerson I bought was a CQC-8, around four months ago. I waited anxiously for it to arrive. Upon receiving it I pulled it out of the box and looked it over. My initial feeling was that I did not receive a good value for what I spent and unfortunately it has not changed.

Interesting. My first Emerson was a Commander. I wasn't expecting much when I opened the box. When I saw and handled the knife, I knew I had something in my hands I'd use a lot, and for a long time. I put it to the test, carried and abused it, and wasn't disappointed.

I couldn't care less what Ernest Emerson has to say about his knives, or Dick Marcinko, or anyone else. Just how they perform for me. Their performance is why I keep buying them. Anything else is smoke and fluff.
