For some reason, Emerson has never appealed to me.

I've been edc'ing a CQC7 for 2 years now, it cuts anything, holds a good edge and I have ZERO complaints with it. I also own 2 commanders and am on the Persian waiting list. I've owned some spyderco's but I never really liked any of them. Each person is going to gravitate towards something different, if you don't like Emerson knives don't buy them cause I will.

How does the fit and finish look on this one? It is a production knife. I have two, they look identical aside from the camo pattern.

I have had a lot of Emerson models through the years and have always been pleased with the knife quality. I once had a HD-7 that had a lock slightly over to the right, this did not have any bearing on the lock integrity but it was slightly more than I was used to. EKI said send it in and they would take care of it. I never did, just knowing that I could if I wanted to was good enough insurance for me. I hear a lot of complaints about the side of the chisel to me it does not matter unless you are a right handed person whittling a piece of wood or cutting some sashimi, Emersons are very sharp cutters. As far as the price goes out of the 30 or so knives I have owned I paid 200.00 or over for maybe 4 of them, just like any other knife brand it pays to shop around. Ted

20 years ago...i bought my first Benchmade / Emerson 970

or CQC7.....one of the best tactical tanto folders i ever had.

in the meantime.....i collected one of every version made.

LOVE THEM...piece of knife history

Bought my CQC7A for roughly $130.00. I've never had any issues with this knife and couldn't ask for a more reliable edc.

If you're into tactical folders, Emerson is a great choice in my opinion. I've caried a Benchmade/Emerson CQC-7 since about 1996. Never failed me.
Have since added an A-100, CQC-16, Commander, HD-7 and a custom CQC-13. They feel great in the hand and perform well.
As far as price, you can pick them up on the secondary market in the $100 to $150 range for many models. I consider that a good value.

Well, I had the CQC7 SFS for a couple of days and sent it back. Between the serrations and the tanto, there wasen't really any edge, well.....at least none the way I look at it. It was also very light, I thought they would have more heft to it. Anyway, I still want one, just not one with serrations or a tanto blade.

This is my latest Emerson, & i like it alot.:) It may not have amazing fit and finish, but it's ergonomics are amazing. Rarely do people buy a Casio G-shock and complain that its fit and finish isn't comparable to their Patek. I mean, that's not what a G-Shock is known for right?...

And these are others I have owned.

Poor fit and finish--send it to me right away, you should not suffer with this knife any longer :D

I like my Emersons, a lot. They always seem to find their way into my pocket. I have occasionally noticed some slight imperfections in my production models (never had a custom), but nothing to write home to Mom about.

Echoing the sentiments of others--great handle ergos, wicked blades, and the company has an excellent reputation in regard to customer service. The Emerson Roadhouse is on my radar, and please Mr. E, make more OBS folders when I have money!!!

So - I have a crazy ethical question but first let me give some background.

I just recently had my Emerson Mini CQC-7B confiscated by our TSA friends at the airport. I EDC'd this blade so much, I forgot it was in my pocket. Sigh... Sad to see it go as it was a favorite of mine. That said, it gives me a reason to get another knife, so not a total loss.

My conundrum is as follows: I recently read a number of Ernie's posts (this is well after my first purchase of an Emerson knife) and really dislike his beliefs. Find his blog posts fascist and too inline with the far right Glenn Beck's of the world. I completely appreciate freedom of speech and freedom of religion, so I agree with his right to express his beliefs. However, I don't believe President Obama is anti-military or disrespectful or our men and women in uniform, and I don't believe all Muslims are extremists who wish to terminate the lives of Judeo-Christians. And frankly, don't believe our world would be better off if all peoples of the world were forcibly converted to Judeo-Christian belief systems.

Anyway, I really like his knives. Respect him as a businessman and knife maker. Soooo, should I just suck it up and go with the strength of his product -- or should I send my business elsewhere?

I admit that I've never met the man and he may be a true patriot and all around good guy. However, to make a truly extreme leap - would I have been comfortable buying a car from Henry Ford despite his anti-semitic beliefs? Or, buying a Mercedes during WW2?

Your thoughts and patience are greatly appreciated.

I disagree with nearly all his "The Way I See It" articles but it doesn't stop me from buying his knives. His knives are good products and they are made in the USA as a bonus. Forget the politics, we all have beliefs that will piss others off.

I own an Emerson Mini CQC-15, a Super Karambit, a Super Commander, and a Police Utility Knife. I used to own a CQC-7A (Lost it) and Benchmade/Emerson CQC-7 (Lost it too). I believe my Emerson knives were worth every penny . The "fit and finish" issues are so very minor. They are not made to be dainty little pieces that you stroke and gaze at obsessively; as stated throughout this thread, they are meant for opening someone up. Sometimes, when closed, my Super Karambit has blade play. That has no bearing on how it would perform in its intended purpose. I trust my Emerson knives to do what they're intended for. Also, to call Emerson's 154CM inferior is foolish. Yeah, they're expensive knives and they all look alike, but they have a Spirit to them where you will have to buy another once you have one. I have to say as well that the PUK is the sturdiest fixed blade that I own.

My family is full of extreme righties, lefties, and everything in between, yet every three years we get everyone together to talk, play, eat, and just have a good old time.

There is one particular group in my extended family that has missed our last couple of reunions because they could not stand the idea of being around people with such extremely opposite beliefs.

Man, did they lose out! If they could just get over it, they would have had a blast.

I hope that translates well:D

i want to throw this in here - back in 1999? or so I had the BENCHMADE Emerson - the "bigger" blade one not the original cqc6(I forget the model #s) - no serrations. I beat the ever loving crap out of that knife and it held true always. I pry'd with it, stabbed through metal, cut metal banding, sharpened it on a rock once, i beat the poop out of that thing.

so - NOW....

how does the benchmade emerson(ats34) compare to the production emerson.

and with THAT said how do those compare to the "prestige" emersons - the semi-customs that are around 1500 - 2000.00 these days?

1500 for a 154cm or ats34 knife with no fanciness to it seems INCREDIBLY HIGH. However, i'm open to things - I will say that beating the snot out of that benchmade was the first time i realized there is a higher echelon of knives and i wanted to be part of it... It was also when i stopped buying spyderco because, back then - the knives were too delicate, tips broke too often, i was afraid to hard use those. i never want to be afraid to use the knife I have.

so I have a police model, a original viele, a kraton inlay civilian, and a few enduras, delicas laying around - that don't ever see the light...

with that said - Emerson fans -- speak up!
