Sorry to hear, Mikel. Maybe stabilized wood is the answer for you... should be impervious to the elements and still show nice wood grain. Here's an example (in my pocket right now):
I must say I have considered this very same Benchmade. Looks classy and by no doubts it is a quality knife. I truly have no idea if the wood in my Boker is stabilized or not. I may try to look for it and post a picture. True to be told, the scales seem to be only mechanically attached to the liners... and I wonder if having the wood permanently glued to the liners would add significant strength to the metal-wood combo. Unless the different termal expansion coeff. between the two materials ruins the bond or cracks the wood as well when exposed to severe changes in temp.
