For those that don't frequent the Cold Steel forum...

With over 75 products from Cold Steel I guess you could describe me as a fan. Nevertheless I'm disappointed that CS has drunk the kool-aid and is now using more expensive steel in their knives which will make no practical difference to the vast majority of buyers but will ,of course, cost more.
I guess they finally caved to the chorus of " if only CS used better steel blah blah blah"

They did! And as part of that chorus, I'm loving it!

Street price will make or break these for me....

Also, is the coating on their better blade steel blades still crap or is it real DLC?

I read that the coating on the higher end blades is actual DLC.

And they're Cold Steels, bro! Nothing can break them ;)

If the entire Recon line is getting the upgrade then I'm interested. I just don't have a use for 9.5 inch knife I much prefer smaller blades so if the mini recon gets it then I'll get one fore sure.

Having owned many Cold Steel products and sold or traded them all off I am glad they are upgrading their steel. That being said I see nothing new they are offering that I would consider buying anytime soon.

I do own a CS knife (Recon 1 plain edge) but generally don't like the brand, mainly for their theatrics (like I care about stabbing a car door) but it's interesting to see their new designs using better quality steel and coatings (DLC versus paint). The Recon 1 with better steel makes it a legitimate hard use folder, the karambits and reverse S models are interesting as well. I'm curious to see what the market prices look like compared to the MSRPs.

Dude, totally!

I did read on the website that the update steels have real DLC. That is good but I do worry about that increasing the price some.

I had a Recon 1 spear point. Sold it as I moved on to different stuff. The coating would scratch if you looked at it wrong. That said, I would get it again if it came with the better steel and was still spear point.

Part of the reason I'm liking the Finn Bear. A very practical, straightforward design.

This is such a good idea. If the street price is reasonable, this could be a perfect bushcraft knife:

The MSRP is about the same as a Recon Tanto, which sells for $72 online. I would pay $72 for a 52100 blade with an unbreakable handle.

This looks really interesting, but I'm a bit trepidatious about the comfort of the handle.

ive never owned a cold steel, but if they came out with a clip point mini recon in CTS-XHP id buy one in a heartbeat

The tanto Recon 1 in CTS-XHP had a $170 MSRP and was going for ~$100-110 at dealers. Looks like the new offerings are in the $170-200 range MSRP, so street prices might be around $100-130. The Lawman, spear point Recon 1 (and mini Recon 1), or Code 4 with CTS-XHP blade would have been great. The Ultimate Hunter does look pretty interesting.

Depends on the price on those. With XHP, I'd consider them, but they're still ugly beater knives, and need to be priced accordingly.

I'm liking that new lucky. I think that be a cool little daily carry knife.

Agreed, that Lucky looks very cool. It's like a Muskrat with a serrated blade and CF scales. That just may become my first Cold Steel purchase.
