For those that don't frequent the Cold Steel forum...

Wow. I may pick up my first Cold Steel folder this year. I'm extremely happy they've decided to start using some premium steels, their steel choices have been the primary reason I haven't picked one up so far.

With over 75 products from Cold Steel I guess you could describe me as a fan. Nevertheless I'm disappointed that CS has drunk the kool-aid and is now using more expensive steel in their knives which will make no practical difference to the vast majority of buyers but will ,of course, cost more.
I guess they finally caved to the chorus of " if only CS used better steel blah blah blah"

I've never been a fan of cold steel due to materials, steel choice, etc. CTS-XHP is a HUGE jump from Aus8. Ill be snagging the ultimate hunter, and atleast the new talon making them my first cold steel knives. More power to you if you want to stick with Aus8 but you would be seriously missing out.

I've been fortunate enough to own a custom Demko AD-10 and sold it because of the weight..... same lock, XHP steel and a much lighter package at around 100 bucks is wonderful!

If the entire Recon line is getting the upgrade then I'm interested. I just don't have a use for 9.5 inch knife I much prefer smaller blades so if the mini recon gets it then I'll get one fore sure.

the way I read it all of the Recon 1 line is getting the DLC CTS-XHP makeover except for the micro line which is staying tuff ex and aus8

The Lucky looks like a winner! Great steel, carbon fiber, functional design, screw togeather construction. Kind of like the concept behind the old spyderco Dyad's with a traditional Muskrat frame. I have zero need for another k-bit but the Tiger Claw looks sickly haha!

You could add more handle material, and it would still be an extremely strong design.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. I have a strong dislike of metal handles on fixed blades, but I'm thinking a paracord wrap might make it very nice indeed.

Someone brought up the possibility of the Tuff Lite in CTS-XHP and with the new modified Tri-Ad lock over on the Cold Steel board and I got to say it's a sexy idea

edit: It was JayGoliath so the credit of the idea goes to them

Wow, never been a cs hater, just wasn't a particularly big fan(I do have a couple). But with new steel they really getting their game up!

Everything that kept me away from Cold Steel seems to be tackled in this new line-up. I'm definitely interested in the Ultimate Hunter.

There's an optical illusion going on for me with this knife. Sometimes I look at it, and it appears to have raised "scales" on the handle, while other times the handle looks concave, sort of like an I beam. I can't decide which view is correct.:D

Yeah, I have the same issue. I think it's more like an I beam as they mention a trench for comfort in the description.

If that stays true then count me in. I've been putting off buying one for quite some time, this year that will change.

The drop forged knife reminds me of the Boye Basic line. They are I beam handles but people do customize them with scales and so forth. CS knives were always priced accordingly, the folders are really well made, always have been. Now the steel upgrade pushs up the cost which is understandable. Good for CS, I think it shows they are hearing the cries of the minority of cutlery lovers out there.

:eek:Hold the BLEEPING phone!!!!

A master hunter in 3V!?!?!?

YAAAAAAASSSS:thumbup:

And it looks like the street price will be somewhat reasonable as well. I MUST have one....
