Ford Mustang knife ideas?

The way you have the scale opened up is like the corral in the grill, which had vertical and horizontal spokes centered on it.
The pony with the R/W/B stripes had no border around the pony...
How hard would it be to frame the pony on that side with a chrome looking corral fram with the spokes? You could terminate the horizontal spokes into the pins, representing the lights mounted in the grill.
You could simulate the lights in the pins by recessing the pins, with a thin tubing around the outside, and fill the center of the pin with some of the white micarta...
Just more thoughts on it...

I already feel like I'm pushing the limits of my skills and I keep waiting to screw something up on this. What your suggesting sounds great, I'm just not sure I can pull it off. I may finish this one up and work on another one to see if I can incorporate some of these ideas.

We are waiting for an update on how this project finished out. How are you doing Shawn? Mike

Sometimes I think you guys are peeking in the windows of my shop. I just got in from working on the knife. I have one side of the handle finished up (well, about 90%) and I'm trying to clean up the opening on the back side of the handle. Then I need to clean up the "ledge" in the window (where the pony is standing) and it should be done. It's a little hard to describe since I'm not sure what to call some of the parts. When I get it all together I'll be sure to post pictures here.

I'm really trying to get this one finished up before the Oklahoma Custom Knife Show, which by the way is on Sept. 20-21 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Holiday Inn ballroom 2102 S. Meridian, OKC, OK-free admission (yes, that was a shameless plug). If I manage to get everything done I should have close to 20 knives for the show. I know I won't get some of the projects finished up that I've been tinkering with but I should have several to display and I'm really hoping this one is presentable enough to show.

Well it still isn't finished but it's getting closer. I've kind of had my hands full lately so I've just been working on this whenever I can.

shawn,

this is turning out to be an amazing knife! Are you still planning on filling in the middle with resin or whatever?

Nice job!

Brett

I think on this one I am going to leave the center open and just put it on a display stand. Knowing the recipient, I doubt it will ever be used to cut anything anyway.

I'm planning on playing around with the resin so I can learn more about it before using it on a knife.

Thanks for the comments.

As a Mustang guy this is a awesome knife and I am looking forward to seeing the finished product! Keep up the good work!

YEAH MAN that is great. Shawn you've done an outstanding job on this knife. Keep it up and bring it to the show to let everyone see what you have done. Mike

Well here it is. I think I could sit and work on this forever but other than doing some very fine finish work inside the window it's done. I would do several things different if I had it to do over again, and since I've started on another one I can make those changes.

I just wanted to thank everyone who helped with this one. David at Great Lakes Waterjet was a great help as was Mike Miller. I can assure you that without their help I couldn't have done this.

I got a decent finish on this one I tried to show with the penny reflection.

Thanks again to everyone for all of the suggestions and comments.

Got to see this in person this week. Shawn did an outstanding job on it. Amazing that the pony is in relief and looks awesome. David the profile was just spot on and again Shawn did an outstanding job. He took his time doing it and it really shows all the effort he took to do excellent work on it. Mike

Shawn, that is a wonderful knife. Any Mustang owner would be proud to have that.

Nice job on the corral/handle matching.
I need to get ahold of David to get me one to pimp... A little differently than yours, though.
Real nice! The owner should be really happy to get that one.
