Forged In Fire

So . . . wow. Like the exact opposite of last week. Maybe my least favorite episode so far. Maybe the challenges were too difficult, but IMO it definitely did not showcase the smiths' best work.

Oh, well. There's always next week!

all i know is that the pig was slapped by one blade and the other blade looked to have been grossly over heated. the right guy won thats the key

I agree with Butch, Scott's blade hit the pig on it's flat. It went right through the sheet steel, but didn't even cut the skin of the pig because the edge didn't make contact.

as to the rest of the show i liked it but might have wished they have given a bit more time in the first round working round bar down is no joke.
being a grit eating grinder guy its not bad to see how much work it taked to forge out a blade and also that its not hard to mess up. 2 really good reasons to forge steel in this day in age 1 keep up the tradition (maybe the most important ) 2 save steel/ forge to shape things that are not good to stock remove

OOOOO and then there is that Damascus thing (totally worth forging time )

Agreed. Too gimmicky for my tastes. Not sure if next week will be any better since it looks to be a pile of scrap steel.

I'm excited for next week because Ilya from Man at Arms on Youtube is going to be on. Should be interesting to see what he can do in this setting.

Watched it for the first time yesterday. (It's not broadcasted over here and the website blocks for "Geographical restrictions" so I have to find another source for episodes.)

Love it. All you guys who participate, you rule.

Last night episode was a little disappointing IMO, however it did seem to me that they strayed away from calling every knife a "weapon". I think that was a good thing and hope they continue to do that! All in all I do believe that the right guy won.

Proper hooded forged would have looked a bit more professional and possibly kept everyone from choking! Coal would have been fun but not with all the smoke blowing right in your face. Should have replaced the powerhammer with a treadle or even a striker to move that big round ! Removead abililty instead of showing it

Show was a bid "gimmicky" but I enjoyed it. I was thinking, "they should open a couple of doors and get a fan going." Judges looked liked they were enveloped with smoke too.
There looked like a big 1.5" divot where the first blade slapped that pork butt to me?
Was "out of the box," but I guess they have to have something new for ratings. Dozier

What a great show!! I watched it for the first time today, so I could see Craig Camerer. I am hooked.

Latest episode not so good. There really should not have been a winner this time.

Watched it last night with my daughter. After the first swing with the second sword we were both asking how one can legitimately pick a winner when both swords failed so spectacularly. But then again, given the format, I don't know what you really do in those circumstances - I can see where "no winner" might be an unsatisfying result for the broader viewing audience even it seems like the right way to go for you and me.

Oh, and if someone has "Eeet weeel keel!" t-shirts for sale at Blade I am SO buying one!

What an amazing business idea !
Can we get AT LEAST one skull on the design ?
Then we'd cover ABS forged and the "tactical guys". :D
Don't we have some t-shirt guys on BFC ?

Seriously, Congrats to all the knifemakers who participated.

Seriously - I'd bet they'd sell a pile of 'em. And I'd only require 25% of gross sales for the idea. :D

Ive been enjoying the show and wont lie...when it got me going from being a knife admirer to dabbling in knife making. Now Im hooked on both and I enjoy even the worst episodes enough to be glad Im hooked on the show! Love looking here and seeing which of the contestants are members as well!

Matt

The challenges are getting a bit ridiculous. What next, take away the anvil and hammer? Here's a bedspring, some matches, and a rock; you have four hours. We'll test your knives by jack hammering up a NY sidewalk then launching into the sun. Good luck.
