Forged In Fire

That bungee cord test looked pretty bad. I didn't bother rewinding but the first sword looked like it bounced back and hit Doug's arm.

If so, he's lucky he didn't test the sharper sword first. I noticed he changed his swing motion the second time around so he wouldn't chop his own arm off on the rebound.

Hello Newton's Third Law of Motion! I replayed that scene about five times and was surprised NOT to see blood. He's super lucky that it wasn't a sharp blade.

If you watch Doug's cut in slow motion, he didn't hit the bungee cords perfectly horizontal. Newton's First Law predicts what happened: the momentum of the heavy blade twisted the center of mass (toward the spine) forward, so the blades in both cases were flat against the bungee cords a millisecond after the initial impact.

That's a very challenging cut for anyone. I'd love to see a expert JSA practitioner do the same cut with a Katana, which also has a thicker spine to resist the twisting moment.

Are you a cutter? Do you KNOW it is a very challenging cut from experience, or do you THINK it is a challenging cut because that is how it appears?

I just wonder how many times they are going to let Doug "side slap" blades (mostly swords, but seen knives also) during the tests, before they have someone else do the "eat wheel keel" test? I know the average viewer may not care (or even notice), but they kind of bug me from a supposed "Master". Unlike the actual smiths under time constraints, and with curve-balls thrown in, the Master Panel know beforehand what test they are doing, and have time to set up and prepare.

It didn't look like he side slapped the bungees, the blade was just dull, clearly or he would have gone to the hospital. That's was a stupid test.

Good season overall, hope it comes back soon.

We finally got to see our first stock removal guy on the show...... hahaha. I felt kind of bad. Maybe there will be a Grind and Fire spinoff?

Watch it Tuesday! Season 3, kicking off with Battle of the Champions! Me, Burt Foster, Matt Parkinson, and Ben Abbot go head to head in a battle royale at the Forge!

wish I could watch it, but I already know who I'm rooting for! Actually, I root for everyone, but in this case you're my man, Salem! Don't let me down, I got millions on the line, (millions of smiles) :)

Salem, I've wanted to see a battle of champions since about the second episode. Can't wait to watch, and good luck to you.
