Forum Knife Updates and comments

This knife was the most balky of my two. The clip always worked fine but the sheepsfoot would stick anywhere beyond the 90 degree point, and was relatively difficult to completely open. The WD 40 treatment and manipulation didn't help, so I soaked it in hot water & detergent and with more WD 40 and manual work after, then oil and it's working adequately now; maybe a bit stiff but acceptable. The off-center lower pin is still a bit distracting, but doesn't alter function so I can live with it. Love the blade combo and steel and although the stag is pale, it isn't un-attractive. This knife will be carried and used!

Thanks again to Buck and SK, and if you think this year's knife has been overly criticized, check out the feedback from previous years. The 35, for example, had members wanting their money back and there were comments like "had to use a screwdriver to open the blades", etc. All because of a bit of blade rub that was corrected. Tough crowd.

I got my two knives in the mail yesterday night after work. All the back and forth in this thread had me scared I’d get a “bad” one. Nope. These are both awesome.

I’m not on the level of a lot of guys on here, I’ve used pocket knives forever and just found out about GEC/custom knives/this forum this year. I think it’s a blessing and a curse. The curse part is becoming aware of things I’d not considered before. I never had an opinion on how much snap or pull or anything was on any of my knives and learning about it can make you more critical I think. BUT, the blessing part is being able to see all the cool stuff everyone here posts and participating in the hobby.

That’s why I was so excited when I was allowed to buy this even though I didn’t meet the requirements to be able to: it’s commemorative of the porch and all the awesomeness here.

So, I think the knife is great. It’s on the level of all the case and bucks I had before I knew any of the stuff I learned about from all of your posts and pictures. Thanks to everyone involved and I can’t wait to buy next years forum knife.

Very nice knives. Glad you were able to get two.

I see by your Avatar that you're IBEW. I retired from SDG&E in 1996. My Traveler Card.

Only notice I ever received was a pre-shipment. So don't despair. Both knives are very nice. Love the size, how it feels in hand. Father-in-law will get his choice and I will be more than happy with the other. Thank you Steven and thank you Buck. I didn't receive the leaflet (no worries) but I wanted to thank whoever was thoughtful enough to do it. IMG_6728.jpgIMG_6729.jpg IMG_6731.jpgIMG_6735.jpg

Nice knives. My leaflet was not in the box or attached to it. It was in the package wrapping. Check all of your wrapping and the box it came in.

It's all about setting expectations. I have a Buck 301. Good knife, I like it. This knife was what I expected it to be- a Buck 301, minus a blade and spring, full flat grind, with premium steel and elk covers. That's exactly what this is.

I'm quite satisfied with the results.

Today, the sun peeked thru some heavy clouds but only for a few minutes. It gave just enough time to hurriedly snap some pics of my 2018 BF Knife. As a fan of Buck's 300 series folders I have often thought that it would really be cool, if Buck would make a two blade 301 in upgraded steel. So when one was suggested as this year's BF knife I became quite involved. I've had mine a couple of days now and have given it my full-spa treatment. It functions very well and I'm absolutely thrilled to have it! Not having had any experience with elk, I didn't know whether to vote for polished or bark but figured I'd be happy either way. I actually received the best of both worlds... all in one great knife.

Both sides are exceptional though different. A person might call this mismatched. I call it a unique combination of parts making up a one-of-a-kind, "elk sampler" and a very special knife for me to own. It truly is an fantastic knife and I wouldn't want it any other way. Why? Because this one-of-a-kind "elk sampler" is more than just the sum of it's parts... it represents us. A unique community of people who come together and make the Porch an enjoyable place to pull up a chair and share our common interest. I'll certainly be carrying this beautiful Buck frequently while looking forward to what the next year brings.
Thank you Steven, Buck, Blade Forum and all who were involved... good job!

Thanks Ed. I double checked as you said but no leaflet. Not worried about it. It was a thoughtful gesture though.

Nice elk James. The lighter side still has some grooves giving it an elegant look.

Very nice post. It may have taught me a thing or two.

Anyone else has side to side play on theirs? Or am I the only one?

Who do I contact to get it fixed or replaced?

I don't think it's smart to ship before the holidays because of all the packages getting lost.. best to wait until Jan.

I have some pretty substantial side-to-side play on mine too (clip point blade only). Emailed Buck yesterday re: sending for repair and haven't yet heard anything from them. Hopefully soon.

I have not heard anything back from them either.
