Freerk Wieringa Commissioned Bowie - Whole Process w/pics and vid

Grease,
It has a forward balance, but not too bad. It is surprisingly nimble in the hand for a blade that size. He offered to put a fuller in, to make it more balanced towards hilt, but I don't like the look of fullers so I said no thanks.

danbot,
Thank you sir.

Man that's one Big Bad Azz Bowie! Congrats that one should last you forever and be passed down to your son. You did well young man. Congrats to you once again.

A few more pics I had taken on my outing. The knife should arrive to Leatherman today WOOT!

Leatherman gave me notice that he has the knife in his possession and will start the sheath up this week. He said the knife is massive and way bigger than he thought it would be.

Ok so @leatherman says that he has been working on some patterning and should get me some pics and ideas etc soon. I'll keep updating this thread as I get pics or details and eventually when I get the knife in its new sheath back.

Here was the list of what I felt I needed for this sheath:

-I am left-hand dominant and want a cross draw style sheath (so worn on my right side, but to be drawn with my left)

-Traditional style bowie sheath with stud for frogs to be used with it.

-Want some hollow rivet holes along the edge of the sheath so I could put paracord through it and lash it to a pack of Molle etc.

-Want some type of loop or slit added on the back of the sheath to place a leg strap through if needed. Due to knife length the loop will probably have to be about half way down the sheath in order to secure around my thigh in a comfortable way.

-Will need secure retention strap to keep heavy knife in sheath, even if jostled.

-Frog dangler style, having the end of the handle at my belt (could be slightly below, not not above please).

-I’d also like a leather leg strap for it.

Ultimately, I told him to use those as a premise and put his own twist on it to meet those needs. I asked him to style, color, texture the sheath to match the knife using his artist's eye hahaha. I'll update when I get some pics.

Update: @leatherman has sent me some pattern ideas. I sent him back my thoughts and the next step will be finalizing and sending payment after he gets back to me. Then the leather should start getting cut.

Got some pics of the patterning now getting completed and the process of creation has begun!!!!

Here’s the patterning pics he sent:

Oh baby, the leather is getting cut. Check out that freaking stud!!!! It’s going to match the blade perfectly.

More updates to follow.

That has been a great thread from drawing to completion .
Enjoyed seeing the process all the way to the sheath being finished .
Looks like a sheath worthy of such a bowie.
Awesome looking bowie / sheath pairing.
You must be super pleased with the results.
