French regional knives...

Is this a traditional or regional French pattern ??
While there are French design elements and it's produced by a French cutler, my spidey sense tells me this may be something Fontenille Pataud just came up with.
Especially since it is said to be named after the Great St Bernard Hospice, a specific location in the Alps between Switzerland and Italy.
Regardless, this exact End Grain Burled Beech Le Saint-Bernard lockback is on the way to me ...

I've been eyeing one of those myself. Yours is a great looking version -- look forward to pics when it arrives!

I've been thinking about what I consider the 'perfect' Laguiole since hearing about kamagong kamagong 's dilemma yesterday. This Laguiole en Aubrac has perfect proportions for me, if only I could find it in olive wood and carbon, but I don't think it exists.

What I like about this particular one are the handle proportions. It is at least twice as thick along the spine, nearly the whole length, as it is wide. Makes for a very good feel in hand. I guess I'll just be happy with this one for now.

Lol...First World problems. draggat draggat

My dream Laguiole would have the lines of the knife I have on order with a carbon steel blade and full juniper covers. That is hard enough. The impossible part is that I also want a carbon steel backspring. I don't think anyone offers that detail anymore.

Very nice! Love the thickness of the handle. It's that thickness that allows the handle to be slender, yet robust, all at the same time. As far as I'm concerned, a great combination! 👍

Thank you, Steve. And I'm very envious of the grain structure and detail of your Laguiole !!!
Thank you! This was my first Laguiole, purchased many years ago. If I recall correctly, the handle is orange carnelian. I was hesitant to buy a knife with a stone handle, but it seems to be fine.

I just finished the slip sheath for it as the sheath it arrived with just didn’t cut it.
