French regional knives...

That's the Camarguaise cross uniting the symbols of Faith, Hope and Charity.
The Camargue is a coastal country of horses (camarguais), toros and red flamingos. And some rice too.
Aigues-mortes (Dead waters) was a harbour from where started some crusades, but now is a good few miles from the sea.

Thanks for the background info on the Camargue Cross, Jolipapa Jolipapa . I became enamored with that bolster stamp when a BF member ( JJ Cahill JJ Cahill ) posted one of those Camarguais knives he has, and I did some research on the symbol and the region. Very intriguing to me, and I'm not even a Catholic Christian. ;):cool:

draggat draggat Really like those Pallares knives. Been trying to get hold of one but for some reason the firm I contacted wanted INSANE shipping tariff for one EU country to another.....but then, things are getting insane here generally

The Alpin is another humble pattern. It is currently made by Au Sabot and Fontenille Pataud among others.

The older ones aren't as refined as modern offerings, but unless my eyes are deceiving me, that backspring goes all the way to the end of the bolster.

I was right, that knife sports a clean and square joint!!!

This knife looks to have been knocked around some, but once I get her in hand she is going to get a bit of spit and polish. I'm very amused that such a rustic knife was made with what is now considered a high end feature.

I like my au sabot Alpin knife, think is it chestnut.

Superb range of Lags there, particularly like the smaller Shadow Horn example top left 2nd down.

I agree with Will Power Will Power , though that shadow laguiole on the right is lovely as well. My next laguiole will likely have horn covers. I thought I wanted pale horn, but striped horn is very tempting.

🤔

I see that you have a fondness for FdL knives Corto_Malt Corto_Malt . May I ask why you prefer them over their industrial counterparts from FP or LeA? Other things being equal, I think FdL has the best looking stamp, and your knives even have the simpler and more handsome older stamp.

Are those shadow FdLs currently available? I've never seen them for sale.

A question, for the more knowledgeable.
Are Laguiole Style de Vie made in France? They are about 22 EUR/USD in online shops.

I know the company
Style de Vie is Dutch and sells a lot of cutlery etc., but, their Laguiole come with a certificate saying they are a french product (Produit de France).
Since they are being sold in EU online shops I would assume they are telling the truth.

Are they made in France by some big cutlery factory, for a low cost?

When there's doubt... The de-facto stainless steel used for real Laguioles is 12c27 (or higher grade for more expensive knives). 420 steel screams China/Pakistan... And so does the low cost.

I know that, and they look similar (and cost) close to what a Pakistani knife would be, cheaper than even Bougna, but they advertise being made in France.

Opinels cost less than that, and they are French, so I wonder if these are also French.

I have laguioles and I am aware of their price. I am not familiar with the French or Dutch law on what the "product of France" marking means, legally.

Are you definitely sure that it basically means nothing?
Many thanks
