Friend of mine found old Knifetest.com video/ THIS is the Joe X DESTRUCTION VIDEO Thread

well, cobalt enhances high temp resistance , so it is coherent that INFI did lose the cobalt in it.
Honestly, the more I research, it seems that INFI is getting less unique as it is getting closer to other ordinary steels:(
However, I still think Joe just got a fluke judging by the "delaminatin" on the cross section.

We shouldn't assume other,s motivations, we can only judge facts
If we can only judge facts, then have Joex send the pieces in. Then & ONLY THEN, we will talk about FACTS.
Fair enough?

I don't want to watch any more of this guy's videos, but judging from the comments here, I take it this dude simply creates content for the entertainment/shock value? I find it amusing (and concerning) that anyone would formulate an educated assessment of any sort on any of the knives this guy tests destroys.

It's just a shame that so many appear to buy into the act. They should come here, interact with not only the makers, but also the folks who have real world experience using these blades. It's the best part about BladeForums, being able to connect, on a daily basis, with so many excellent knifemakers.

Good question. I don't know what the tempering temp would be but just looked up Bohler K329 which is very close to INFI here is the tempering graph. So it seems you would have to really cook INFI to a high temp in order to ruin it's temper and years ago I remember Busse saying as much

Yeah, A8mod falls off a cliff around 1k

I wanted to try to post something like this ^^^ last night, but just couldn't quite get it as perfectly or concisely worded as you managed to do.

I've never made it a secret that I think that the guy is a douche and a clown, and his "tests" completely useless. (*For me, they're not even entertaining or shocking) However, what is most disappointing for me is seeing someone in the comments section posting that they have a __________ knife (*fill in the blank) and have chosen to get rid of it after watching the vid. Owning some of those same knives, and reading those type of comments, the first thought that goes through my mind is, "Tell me you have NEVER used, and know absolutely NOTHING about, your own knife without telling me that you have never used, and know absolutely nothing about, your own knife."

What is equally disappointing is watching other YouTubers using his vids as some kinda' springboard to comment or analyze. I watched a "Let me show you how smart I am" vid that another clown put out, where he tried to give his analysis of grain structure and why the knife, that JoeX was "testing", broke. In other words, it didn't break because some moron was repeatedly beating it against a steel pipe, it broke because of the grain structure. Oy vey.

Anyhow, after I watched that "analysis" vid, this was the first thing that came to mind...

It's rough, man. 100% agree with you. I ignored my own advice and went down the rabbit hole that is that video's comment section in order to sate my morbid curiosity. I think this guy's fans are just a mob of malcontents that founded their own little so-called "anti-fanboy" club. They weren't just throwing shade at Jerry, they were also slinging crap at other respected makers here. This Joe guy actively encourages this kind of dialogue - which says a lot about him and it's nothing good. I think they all deserve each other - they can be hateful and "edgy" together.

I need a drink.

Hey, I know that guy!

I bet you REALLY hate it when makers/ brands/ manufactures (like myself) break their own knives to check grain structure too huh?

And you must equally not like Jerry for wanting the pieces back for inspection either huh?

Weird.

Are you trying to compare standardized testing, and empirical data, with some clown swinging at 50% with one knife and then swinging for the rafters with another?

...and you say you make knives and analyze grain structure?

Weird.

I am saying that grain can be analyzed when a blade breaks

And yes, I am. At least that part isn't weird. 🤷‍♂️

You mean the conversation I mentioned and referred to? I think I'm starting to understand your thinking process.
No.

I am not referencing the entire thread.

I am referencing the comment in this thread that my comment directly relates to.

It's not hard to understand my thinking process- My work was directly referenced and I directly responded.

Oh good grief man, that's the conversation. I was aware what comment you were replying to because you quoted it. Im perplexed that this needs an in depth explanation.

Since you are confused lets do a play by play since you said ""How you reached that conclusion from this conversation is a mystery"

"vid that another clown put out...

Knife makers, manufactures, abs smiths, etc dont break their knives replicating real use, they stick the knife in a vice, they break it, and they check the grain structure. I never, EVER implied that the knife didnt break from hitting the pole but instead VERY SPECIFICALLY explained that the knife performed more poorly that its counterparts made by the same company from weaker steel in thinner stock thickness because of problems with the heat treat that were directly caused by the design of the fuller and was verifiable by the grain structure.

Makers dont throw their knife into a vice and break the knife to check the grain structure, find a problem with their grain structure, then say "oh well, its not the heat treat its the vice and the cheater bar"

So i cant imagine how you got lost here but if there was nothing to be seen by looking at the grain structure in a situation like this then Jerry wouldnt be here saying he wants the pieces of the knife for analysis.

This is all very, VERY straight forward.
