Front Flipper Fans?

Off topic:
I am sure he does, and it is why I said may have nothing to do with, rather than he doesn't answer Messages/Emails.
But the bottom line is I did not get a response. I fully understand the problem these custom makers have handling the volume of messages and still doing work, but when you have thousands of dollars of their work, it would be nice to be able to get hold of them when needed.
but this problem is past. I sold the knife
You sound like my ex wife

How ya liking the imperium? Been eying that exact version as im a big Civivi fan and wouldnt mind another example of NitroV besides my perpetua.
The Imperium is a fantastic knife.
Detent, centering, and fit &finish are all spot on.
After sharpening, my knife was 15-17 thousandths behind the edge and the way it felt on the stones mine is probably about 61 hrc.

I have not cut a lot but so far it is holding up well.
Design wise I think this is a winner.
Not too big or too small and very comfortable grip.

I really like how Civivi makes their knives so they are optimal cutting tools right out of the box.

bought one front flipper...hard to adjust to.
why change horses in the middle of the stream?
i like my regular flippers just fine; see absolutely no reason to change.

Curiosity, which ff did you have? Some are absolutely terrible, others are fabulous with almost zero learning curve.

Civivi is killing it. Love their thin grinds, great FnF, and action. Hard to believe they are budget blades and so affordable. Appreciate the thoughts on the imperium. Think im gonna pull the trigger.

Not really but I do like the Serge Beans. I don’t flip them open though. I open about halfway with the tab then finishing opening via the hole. I usually carry one in addition to other blades. I’m not a flipper fan in general and always open by another method If available.

I have three myself, two Civivis and a Viper.

The Mckenna is perfect.
The Exarch could use a stronger detent.
The Viper is more about technique, especially grip. A clip would help I think.

I wish the imperium didn't have thumbstuds though, makes it ugly imo.

I have been eyeing the viper novis for a long time but the lack of a pocket clip has always held me back. If i found a good deal on one though id pull the trigger and try to add a clip to it. Viper makes some excellent folders.

Also been eyeing that jade imperium and agree the thumb studs coulda been left off but Ill prob end up grabbing one anyway as soon as my favorite dealer gets them in stock.

The McKenna and Exarch are pretty good budget FF along with the Metamorph imo and any of them would be a good choice to try out for those curious. I prefer the G10 Metamorph over the aluminum and CF versions i have finding those 2 kinda slick in hand.

If I knew someone who could tap it and add a clip I would do so. I will say that the jimping is very rough, especially the lockbar. Its not smooth flipping like the Civivis, and takes a lot of practice getting grip and technique correct. But once you have it down, it's great. I'm going to disassemble it in me of these days, clean and lube to see it it improves the action. Worked for my A Purvis Progeny.

I wish the liners were titanium, it's a heavy knife. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

It's generally a cleaner design, since you don't have the flipper tab hanging off the side. So you get the opening speed (and fidget factor) of a flipper, but without the tab disrupting the profile of the knife.

Can't wait to try a Smock. I can do the flick and can finger snap open a Zippo so this should be smooth sailing.
The Smock is sort of a midpoint between a traditional flipper and a front flipper - the placement of the "tab" (actually just a corner of the tang) makes it so that the regular index finger light-switch opening method works the best. It's got the ergonomics of a front flipper, but you don't really use the Zippo-style thumb roll to open it. The MBK EWC and Slayback have a similar design, albeit with a more pronounced tab. The "corner" flipper tab is sometimes called a top flipper.

If you want something that uses an over-the-top thumb roll open, the Pena front flippers are great.

marthinus marthinus it was some years ago, but what became of your cf Gareth Bull South African hunter?

Still have it as part of my collection but don’t carry it.

Been trying to get my designs done and made but it seems I am ending up with more of my own pieces in my pocket than what actually leaves the door 🤦

Wasn't sure about the thumb stud in addition to the front flipper but its out of the cutting path and offers extra deployment methods including the reverse flick thanks to a nicely tuned detent so i don't mind the stud. Pretty nice model imo.
