230,
Do you have a way to test hardness at work? I was thinking you could test the blade and send the results to Jerry to see if the HT is off.

Yes I do, but I no longer have access to the rockwell testing equipment at work do to a new team lead in that area. If It was two months ago I could have just walked in with the knife, now the new boss would flip her wig and i'd get fired for having a dangerous weapon inside the building.

Hey gang!!!!

Been from one doctor to another all day today with the twins . . . . They're doin' great!!!!

Came home. . . pased out on the couch. .. just woke up!!!!. . . . This has been my first chance to see the forums today. . . . . and I just read this post!

Cool Squatch. . . . No worries. . . . All is well. . . . That edge looks just like INFI looks when it is too thin for a high impact application. . . no biggie! Doesn't look like actual chipping. More like severe denting and ripping. If it had chipped, it would have gone right back into the sheath. . . .

Ain't nothin' wrong with beating your Busse knives stupid, that's what they're designed for. . . . AND if you're gonna convex grind them with a belt sander, there's a good chance that you're gonna thin them out. . . perhaps more than they should be for a certain application. You should see the deeply hollow ground straight razor that I made with a 62 Rc blade after I chopped into the vise with it!!!!! Using the phrase "Denting and ripping" along the .004" edge would be an understatement!!!

Judging by the pic of the fix below, I would venture to say that the edge looks extremely thin right in front of the choil. Very common occurrence when resharpening with a belt.

So, PLEASE MAN!!!!!! Before you use it again, PLEASE SEND IT BACK! We've got lots of frozen wood in Ohio and we'll make the edge right for the application. . . Give us the chance man!!!. . . Put us in coach!!!!!. . . . . We'll make you proud!!!!. . . .

Let's Drink!!!!!!

I think this guy might be on to somethin. Im glad your kids are doin good, cant wait to see pics of the family.

Jerry, thanks for posting. That's awesome the twins are doing good. Honestly, I'm guessing the edge was thinned a bit too much for the application of frozen wood chopping, but I've had no problems with other knives this thin. I honestly didn't want to send it in incase I was at fault with the thinned edge, and then either have it be rejected for warranty or feel bad about making you guys do the leg work.

I will send it out on Monday, what's the shop address?

I love reading posts like this from the BOSS man. It makes me want to beat the crap out of my Busse's. Cheers!

I'm not a Busse fanboy at all, but 230, if you own another knife ground as thin as that SARsquatch and of approximately the same mass, chopped full-force into wood that's been waterlogged and frozen solid, and that DOESN'T chip out and roll all over the place, I'd like to see it. Seriously.

BTW, Big Boss Busse... Kudos on the great customer service, man. And congrats on the tykes. :)

I am sure there is a lot more dangerous stuff around there than a knife. LOL :D

I think I went just a little too accute on my BWM edge, tore it up just a little bit.;) Everyone makes a mistake once in awhile. :o

That's OK though, I will just back up the edge a little and I am sure it will be fine.

Now that's what I thought would happen ... Cool Service .... and a Happy Ending ...:D:thumbup:

Just in 230's defense, I've chipped out full size axes, made of S7 steel chopping frozen wood. That can be some nasty stuff. It obviously rolled and misformed the edge, but at least it didn't chip out or form structural cracks (that we can see, anyway). Hey sh*t happens, and as nice as INFI is, it isn't invincible.

Does any1 read the Busse warrenty"With a steel like INFI it's easy to understand why we offer the toughest guarantee in the business. We guarantee against any and all unintentional MAJOR damage forever",unless you set out to distroy it then not to worry!just seems to me that people like to be the source of topic and discusion(not saying you are or not),im sure Busse Knives have gone under loads of test and have seen 100s if not 1000s of blades get ruined,c'mon Rome wasnt built in a day, thats why Busse is where it is today and why they offer such an outstanding warrenty!sure i posted my NMSFNO on here,i just wanted to share a pic of it and for my 1st thread i fort it would be good!if i didnt know about this forum you guys wouldnt of even seen it!im glad i did share, getting the support off every1 on blade forums and the Responce off Jerry was just another reason to continue to buy Busse Knives! All the best guys and girls(",)
