Funny things non knife people say.

Just checked. We CAN have machine guns, still don't know 'bout sawed off's.

This is off topic, I know, but a "sawed off" aka short barreled shotgun of less than 18" is legal after applying for a class III permit just like a short barreled rifle, suppressor or machine gun.

Recently, as i was cutting up a chicken:
"Wait, where'd that even come from? Youre not wearing a shirt. How were you..."

The full version is that i was wearing my knife in its sheath in the kitchen, but the sheath was sitting comfortably in my pocket (you know the part you put your belt through? on these jeans, theyre right near the pocket. So only about an inch of the handle was even visible). I was laying out the plates and cutting board and stuff, then he turned around for a second and picked up his cup. He turned back, and suddenly i have a knife in my hand, and im cutting the chicken. I wasnt wearing a shirt at the time, and i usually dont during the summer, so i guess i can see how knives miraculously appearing might be a bit surprising. However, come to think of it, if i werent into knives it really wouldnt occur to me that a sheath would sit pretty deep in your pocket, even if its on a belt.

I was at a bonfire and the people building the fire were failing miserably trying to start it using lighter fluid. All I had with me was my BM 942 so I decided to lightly baton thin slivers of kindling from some log edges with it. Someone asks "why are you doing that, isn't it an expensive knife?" All I could say was it's meant to be used.

My girlfriend is kinda into knives, she has her own mini grip, likes all of my knives and is interested whenever I get a new one. She's far from an enthusiast but she appreciates their usefulness and finds them intriguing.

That being said, she had me sharpen her mini grip the other day (she haaaaates the sound of sharpening, so I usually get some entertainment out of it) and when I open it up I notice the blade is VERY sticky. I asked her what she did with it and her response was "oh yeah I cut up an apple at work a few weeks ago". Yep...weeks.

Thus began a long discussion and explanation about how to and why you should clean your blade. I know it's not as ridiculous or ignorant as a lot of the other examples in this thread but it was something that, being a knife person made me cringe.

Indeed. Jesus Christ. I mean... 22 years of school and the best he could do was a Ph.D. in English Literature? I'd be surprised if he could work the burger assembly line at the local McDonald's without needing knee pads, a helmet, and water wings.

This almost made me shoot my drink out of my nose!

Thanks for the info.

You should do a little more research. You do not need a Class III Permit to own NFA items as there is no such Class III permit. Some people think you need a Class 3 FFL in order to own them but the Type 1 Class 3 FFL is only if you are going to be a dealer of NFA items. To obtain a NFA item you only have to submit a Form 4 or Form 1 and a $200 tax.

The last time (and I do mean last) I let someone borrow my knife, he cut himself pretty bad and I was actually a bit concerned he was going to make a big deal out of it (would have been a bad move seeing as how I was armed at the time).

Here's the story (and I could have swore I already posted this, but guess not!)

I used to work part-time at a gun shop. It was a pawn & gun, but the biggest gun shop in town. I just worked Saturdays selling guns so I could get some extra gun/knife money. I quit when I got married.

So this one day, this guy comes in and he's doing some business on the pawn side with the owner so I didn't pay him much attention. It ends up that I am at the counter about the same time as him and he asks if he can borrow a knife. I saw what it was he wanted to cut (though I forget what it was now) and so I said sure, but be careful, it's sharp.

So of course he cuts himself and then tells me that's the sharpest knife he's ever seen. Why would I need something that sharp? Then he says he has a bleeding problem and he can't get it to stop. So he's asking all of us for bandages or a napkin or something. I asked for my knife back and walked away. The other guys just ignored him until he left.

I'd hate to see the damage he would have done with a dull knife!

Oh and the knife was a mini-griptilian.

The best thing I've ever been told by a sheeple is, "I don't need a knife, I have keys", while he uses his Acura key to rip open a large cardboard box.

More often than not someone makes a comment or poses a question about how often I stab people. Im pretty discreet when I use my knives and I don't carry anything tacticool. Mostly I carry smaller spydies like a delica, caly 3 or dragonfly. I even get this from guys at work, and I work in a machine shop. I would have thought if anywhere people in the metal working trade would understand why a good quality, well made pocket knife is a nice thing to own. But they do not.. so I don't even bother explaining why I collect and adore knives anymore. To hell with these ignorant boobs.

In my line of work everyone carries firearms. Quite often I hear guys comment that the volume of firepower we have access to negates the necessity for a knife. More often than not it's the same guys asking to borrow mine when they need to cut something. Blows my mind that someone would enter a combat zone without even a Leatherman.

I misspoke, i meant NFA. It was late. Thanks for correcting me.

My favorite NKP story is a friend who asked me "Why do you need to carry a knife? This is modern times, we're not skinning antelope on the Serengeti." Not a day or two later, he got a package in the mail and was struggling to try to cut the tape with his keys. He looked up at me and i raised my eyebrows, and he said "Just give it no me."

I later gifted him a Spyderco Stretch and he's been a knife guy ever since. He would usually drop it off on my desk every two weeks or so for sharpening.

I would go as far as to say the knife was the second most important discovery in all of history right next to the creation of fire which would obviously been first.

Australopithecines, First evidence of tool use, 3.24 Million Years BP

Homo Erectus First human lighting/use of fire 1.00 Million Years BP

I was hangin out and a Mexican gangster lookin dude noticed my Ontario Rat 1 clipped to my pocket and he said " Is that a knife in your pocket ?! ", I said "yeah", then he says " You know if you get a fishing license you could carry those big fixed blade knives", I laughed and told him "that's bullshit, you could carry any size fixed blade in California as long as it is not concealed."

LOL, the dumb idiot actually thought he needed a fishing license to carry a knife.

A family friend of mine was checking out my Native 5.

I told her it was $130
"*Gasp!*"
"Spider Company? Is that what its called?"
She started to try and close it like a slip-joint and then stopped, and unlocked it.
"See? I figured it out without cutting myself!"

I took out my ivory slip joint to open something at dinner. My wife's friend asked to look at it, and asked me what the handle was made of. I told her, and she got a disgusted look on her face and told me that I murdered an elephant.

my favorite? "holy crap-how many knives do you carry?"
runner up- "is that thing even legal?"
lastly...." YOU SPENT HOW MUCH??? IT'S A POCKET KNIFE, NOT A LAPTOP"
i guess you either get it or you don't.......

At least your pocket knife won't be obsolete in six months.

That just aggravates me.
The elehant would have dies either way, and then onto a knife. The fact that you bought the knife makes no difference in what happened to the elephant

i carry my sog mini aegis everywhere, school included (and yes thats legal here in montana as long as the blade is 3" or under) can't count how many times people have seen the pocket clip and ask what it is then i show them and they're like "oh we got (insert famous action hero name here) in the house"
