Funny things non knife people say.

I would go as far as to say the knife was the second most important discovery in all of history right next to the creation of fire which would obviously been first.

I just don't get it. People ask "why does it need to be sharp". Would you like a dull butter knife for your boxes, mail, zipties, strings, everything else??
Or, that scared look you get when a freaking SWISS ARMY KNIFE comes out. I pulled the scissors out of my SAK one day, no blade was out just scissors, and a guy sitting next to me has a face as if I was out to slit his throat. -_-

Or my mom asking "Why do you need knives" and then needing something cut.

I wish the local news did a section on common knife knowledge, then we would 't have to deal with any of this.

Rant over
How was your day?

"How do you close this?"

My brother has a Phd in English Literture and two or three other degrees. He asked to borrow my Delica to open a small package. I watch him as he nearly slices into his hand. When done he looks at it in an attempt to close the blade. With 22+ years of "education" and tons of debt he had know idea how to close a simple lock back. He looked at me for help and I told him to look at the simple knife and try to figure it out. It took him a long while and he nearly cut himself again. He said that thing is dangerous. I said no - Ignorance is dangerous.

Yeah, not surprised at all considering the English lit degree. now if you said he had a PhD in Mechanical engineering, that would be hysterical.

not really a question but an answer from someone who I seen had a BM grip in his pocket and I asked about it, he replied, "oh yeah, It's a benchmark, had it for years" I just turned around and walked away...

or when I flick open any of my kershaw speedsafe knives I constantly hear "nice switchblade"

And you don't tell a lie, really. You have to cut anything, and you use the knife for this purpose. ;)

It's also really interesting to see peoples responses(usually a newer staff member), when they ask about the gun I'm carrying too ! They say "why do you have that ?"
My answer: In case I need to shoot somebody. That is what guns are for.

I know this could sound stupid (it is lol) but when my friends used to ask why i needed a knife I would replie "so when I'm yelling at my freinds for asking stupid questions, I have something to wave around!"...

Niner, that is absolutely phenomenal. I hope you don't mind if I use that from now on.

I must use this now lol

yeah the normal folk just don't understand the need for a good sharp EDC knife I have carried a knife for the last 15 years of my life and I have used a knife everyday of those 15 years.

I need to use this too!!!!!!!:D

Indeed. Jesus Christ. I mean... 22 years of school and the best he could do was a Ph.D. in English Literature? I'd be surprised if he could work the burger assembly line at the local McDonald's without needing knee pads, a helmet, and water wings.

I can't believe the stories you people have.
I usually carry a fairly large knife wherever I go, like a Socom, HALO, Delica, Etc, and EVERYONE who sees me using it is always happy to see it and smiling, so, maybe it's because I don't look like a psychopath, but, I dunno.

My girlfriend will look at me when she needs something cut and says "benchmade! " lol she cant even tell the difference between a pm2 and a griptilian, she says they look the same hahaha

After 20+ years of owning and admiring Spydercos, going to knife shows, customizing Spyderco Mules, and visiting the Spyderco Golden Colorado facility, my wife still calls them "Spider Knives". Sigh.

I guess that since I've been married to her longer than I've been using Spydercos (thought not by much!), I shouldn't complain...

*shows mom new Damascus chive*
"oh that's a nice knife"

*shows mom new griptilian*
"thats nice, but it looks like the last one you bought"

*shows mom spyderco Chicago*
"why do you need so many of the same knife"

*shows mom sebenza and mnandi, hoping she will see TRUE quality and finally understand*
"that's too much for a slab of titanium"

THE WORLD IS WRONG, IM RIGHT!!! :p

Get ready to laugh then.
A mechanical engineer at my dad's place of employment could not figure out how to close a Spyderco Native 5.
He could not figure out how to unlock a simple lock-back.
He just kept pushing harder on the spine of the blade.
This is a person who works on designing components for cars.

Be afraid, be very afraid.
