WW, it's called a sharpening notch not a choil, I think that may be part of the problem. It looks like a choil but it's tiny right? Like 3/8ths of an inch...

I just got called out on this in another thread, I had seen (and misinterpreted) a diagram some time ago and thought it was the ricasso, (which is the whole width of the blade, I've now learned). Did so more research so I wouldn't put my (other) foot in my mouth and from everything I've seen and read, that little notch is a choil. Just not a finger choil. But I'm going to let Terrio school us, if he would be so kind. That way I won't stomp out my brain from having both feet in my mouth.

The order was backwards, the vomiting comes first, then the shower, then the vicodin. If it was vicodin, puke, shower then yeah I'd agree. I've built up a wicked tolerance to vicodin because I've been on and off it so long. It's sad but it is what most often gets prescribed to me.

I was talking about the caffeine. If you're getting withdrawals that bad from anything, there's a problem.

I ain't schoolin' no one, lol... It really depends on whom you ask. That's just how I describe 'em for clarity's sake. Then again I've been known to refer to the "cutty side" and "non-cutty side" of the blade too, so what do I know :p

The important thing is, Todd's exactly correct that any sort of notch or hole should be radiused and preferably chamfered to prevent stress-risers.

Granite, couldnt find an email listed for you so i sent a PM.

Thanks, got it. For email, just click on my (or anybody's) user name and select "@ Send Email" on the bottom right of the drop-down. Just to make it easy on ya, it's bailey15stonesATgmailDOTcom. I've looked at what you got for trade, just gotta hobble down to the basement and find some of the extras before I give you a call. I'll set you up.

Thanks man, but there is no email option for you that was the first thing i tried. others i can email that way but your drop down shows no email option.

No worries though, give a call whenever you are ready, no rush at all.

A choil is a choil is a choil. doesnt really matter the size. however, a finger choil is just that. A choil that can also be used as a finger groove to in most cases choke up on the knife. Im not here to call anybody wrong though. Call it whatever you want. I think the scientific term is. "little nothchy thingamagigger!"

the riccasso is the area between the fingergaurd/bolster to where the cutting edge starts. IF you have a choil, it too will be in this area.

haha. Looks like Im Terrios substitute teacher this morning. Lol!

I think that your idea of ice cold is not the same as anyone who lives north of the 43°rd parallel.....;)
I think Julio would DIE if he tried to contend with us Yankees! Today it is 47 degrees and for my morning constitutional I'm wearing shorts.

Yeah I know, however I been drinking coffee since I was 8. I started cause every morning before starting my schoolwork I'd sit with my dad and we would read the newspaper and drink our coffee. By 10 I was making it and I wouldn't water it down like he did for us. (I'm pretty sure mine was water with red and green food coloring when I was that young!) Since then it's just been part of my routine. I've stopped drinking coffee almost every year since high school at least for a month.

Ive described it as stabby or not stabby side...

Be prepared for the spitballs and general classroom mayhem then. Subs always take a beating, at least that's what I remember from the foggy depths of that long-lost era.
Thanks for the explanation, tho.

No problem. Just remember, I'm not the regular run of the mill sub. Piss on setting a apple on my desk, bring me a six pack. And I won't slap your knuckles with a ruler, I'll take your fingers off with a M-18............bring on the spitballs! :devilish:

Dubz, you come out of the storms ok? We didn't have any touch down here, just crazy cloud rotation. Washington, IL is really close to where I lived when I was young. I guess most of that town is gone, now.

So, I have two WICKED slicers... A Magua from TMHunt (dur!) and a Mountain Man 100% from Daizee... I've been neglecting them lately, not on purpose just I haven't been doing much of anything with my blades besides routine usage. So this morning I was feeling rather randy, I decided since I SUCK donkey balls at sharpening a convex I'm going to do what I know. So I took the MM100 to a 17° each side on my KME. Started with the medium fine stone, then the fine stone, then stropped it on black then on green... HOLY FLIPPIN HELL! This thing will slice atoms from 100 yards! Now to work on the Magua.

Yeah, we just had a few branches down was all. Had crazy high winds, and small hail. We had 35 mph sustained winds for a few hours after the storm hit. 71° for the middle of November is crazy too. Today's high is 51°. Good ol Illinois weather.

Yeah, the winds were wild. I watched a maple tree across the street having it's trunk significantly bent and branches were ripping off.
