Todd, even though the Kris design is not my cup of tea, that is some beautiful work!

I see no practical use for this knife but the workmanship is remarkable!
Truthfully, As far as being a my cup of tea or seeing partical uses I agree with you guys a 100% But what interests me most about the kris knife is the history of it. The country of origin escapes me at the moment but the meaning and the way the constuntion of these knives where handled is pretty amazing. They where only to be made by a certain type of blacksmith, at a certain time of the year for the finest warriors. It was said that the smiths even went through a certain type of religious ceremony and fasted for days before the forging could begin. They where awarded to the best warriors not nessessarily as weapons but as a status symbol. It was even said that those who carried such a blade recieved a dirrect connection with God. So, that and the fact that I have seldomly seen many current knifemakers make them, this was a project I wanted to do for myself. Part of the reason it took me so long is I totally "old schooled" this one. This was one I challenged myself on. The blade I ground 100% with hand and file. It never touched a electric grinder. That is also the reason I have only made one to date.![]()
It looks almost Persian in design. That is awesome that you really paid tribute to the heritage of the design though. That attention to detail and strictness to "the right thing" is why I'll keep coming back!
