I would go with a more robust material for both the blades and steel. Corrugated cardboard is difficult to sharpen. James also had some good suggestions. Also, on the chopper, I would go more "sheepsfoot" than "lambs foot" to improve tip strength.
Since I have never actually made a knife you may want to disregard entire post.
Carry on.

Not disregarding any advice i get at all, except telling me the handle is ugly... yea ill disregard that as im after function NOT looks and that handle is perfection for me.

the sheepsfoot is a nice idea i will indeed look at that some! Thanks man

So here are my newest designs. What do you guys think?

Just dont like them, think they need tweaking, like them..... either way share your opinion...

The handle on the bottom one reminds me a little of the handle on a Condor Nessmuk:

You can have both!
To each his dentifrice.

I like where you're going with the sweep on the blade in your second box drawing.
Obviously I'm in agreement with JT on the spine/handle geometry.

Man i have been thru 100s of knives, I also get knives almost weekly that all i do is hold them and play with them in my hands and then send them to their owners, I have had the chance to touch and handle so many different blades both mine and others that are just being proxied thru me and to this date i have never held a more comfortable handle, I agree its not the best looking, but honestly it is so comfortable and the rear swell is great, it fits right in my palm. So its the handle id want to use on a competition type cutter, and since swamp rat wont make it for me i have to design my own LMAO

And yes the sweep is a way better idea I can tell just from looking at the 2. I do appreciate your advice honestly, i read my previous post and it sounds a little rude... not my intention and i apologize if it was taken that way.

Obviously this is a very rough draft, but is this more what you mean james?

Yup! Although you may find you don't have to go that extreme (for lack of a better word) with the curves. But yes, the flow all the way down the knife from stem to stern is what I meant.

Incidentally if you're trying to stay within BladeSports guidelines (and you may as well) I'm 99% sure that's legal... the blade must be no more than 2" wide at any given point, but as far as I know it can curve as much as you like. However I'm also 99.999% sure the overall length standards remain the same... measured in a straight line, not along the curve.

Cardboard is definitely your friend in these exercises... super cheap and fast to try out lots of different shapes

Thanks James!!

And Yes im trying to keep it in the Bladesports guidelines. I am getting 1 of Keffelers but I want more than 1 for comp cutting. I also have every intention of training and getting certified next year as well and have been practicing for just that. Dan was telling me they have a training and certifying event at Peters so i plan to go to that.

Outstanding  Dan is one of the very best in the game, both as a maker and a competitor, and he has the Championships and Records to prove it. And Peters' HT is likewise firmly in the top two in their business (quite honestly I think they're Numero Uno), and has been sponsoring cutting events for quite some time. (full disclosure... I don't know Dan personally, I've just interacted with him briefly on the forums, and seen him compete both live and in videos. Peters' does all my HT, but I am not compensated to talk nice about them.)

One thing to consider if you're going to have a second, or practice cutter made, or if you want one for camp use as well as competition, is to ask the maker to leave the edge a little thicker than he normally would for a true race knife. These guys grind 'em super thin (even by my standards) to get every possible advantage in very specialized events that are measured in seconds, not hours. That sort of edge won't hold up long in a less-refined situation.

The guy I'm working with describes it like this... Top Fuel dragsters are the way to go in sanctioned 1/4 mile events - but you wouldn't want to run a rally or do a road trip in one. ;)

The competition cutting movement is a whole lot of fun, and they've done a lot to push the boundaries of what serious knives can do. They're also very much into keeping events family-friendly and promoting knives as tools to be respected, not feared. Quite a bit like Beckerheads and their Gatherings :)

no worries, bro.
I've been at the office 24/7 for 48 days straight, and if all goes as planned I'll be having a beer on a beach on a private Caribbean island in about 4 hours. You can't rattle me THAT easily today. :D

Yes Dan was telling me he normally keeps his edges really thin but for someone like me just starting out a little thicker would be better because as thin as he goes wont last for me and quite frankly i might mess the edge up if its too thin. But he said i could always get it thinned out once i get more proficient. And the one im designing will be more my practice cutter and also a camp knife so it can indeed be a little thicker even!

I have not had the pleasure of meeting Dan yet, only talking on the phone/email/Pm but he is a very cool guy to talk to, he explains stuff very well. Speaking of it I need to give him a call soon.

The boat is the office, and we're steaming to the beach.
Five minutes ago the ROV's just landed on deck for the last time this season.

Just updated my Ultima listing....tried to be truthful about the knives having sheath wear/pitting in the original post; turns out the "pitting" came off with my fingernail - it was just some plastic from the insert. Also closely inspected the sheaths, they are super nice and the inserts look like they'll come right out. Now I wanna keep one.....which I will probably get to do as I don't know if these will sell. a little too "mall ninja" for most BF members, I think.
Speaking of "mall ninja", haven't seen nor heard from CDKJudoka in a long while....hope he is OK.

We just had a hell of a storm roll through. Some hail, although not damaging. Tornado sirens still going off. A windy, rainy hell right now.

It was sunny and beautiful about an hour ago, then the wind picked up and started raining like crazy.

Great way to spend my only day off.

Its been raining all day today so tonight I will redo my entry for the challenge (I didn't have enough pics to do it justice)
