Windy and about to rain here. Flash flood and tornado warnings for my general area.

kinda want a spydie dragonfly2. any b'heads have thoughts on 'em? I'm thinking VG-10 and G10. Not that I should spend any money at this particular moment, but the jones hit again...

Not spend money? You've been on a boat for 7 weeks...what have you needed to spend money on (other than rent/mortgage) in that time ;)?
Seriously, I keep looking at Spydercos, but I would be limited to a Resilience or something like that...cheap(ish). Your line of work, maybe forget the G10 and look at the Dragonfly 2 Salt...H1 steel. Just a projection of my own desire, really. Enjoy your tropical beverages, there'll be plenty of crappy weather left for you when you get back.

I've been torn between getting a dragonfly 2 or the spyderco UK penknife for a while now...

My wife bought me a stainless Dragonfly and had it monogrammed so I'd have something nice to take on planes. That was in summer 2001. :grumpy:

ha! Bad luck there. The very first spyderco I ever bought was a stainless dragonfly. Ironically enough that was when I lived in NYC in about 2000 if I remember correctly. Never got to take mine on a plane either but I still have it 13 years later:

Still have mine too. Kind of hard to sell a monogrammed Spyderco. :p

Sure would. Maybe that's why she put your name on it :D

I just could never let go of mine. Was the first knife I ever owned other then a SAK.

At least she didn't put her name on it.
I have a difficult time letting go of any knife I've spent the time and effort and money to purchase. Some I really don't even like, it seems a little cruel to foist it onto someone else,tho....some are nice and I'm not ever gonna use much but they might be useful someday....some are broken just enough that I keep thinking I'll get to fixing them, even though I probably won't...others I keep thinking I'll fit back into the rotation of daily use...man, the list of rationalizations is endless. Some people refer to this as being a pack rat; I think I'm just a blade whore. At least when it comes to knives. And tools...and....other stuff. Maybe I am a pack rat.

What crazy freakin' weather we're having. It's 71° right now. Very warm for the middle of November. We're having 35 mph sustained winds too.

Raining here too, has been for hours. It's pretty gentle rain with no wind to speak of and mild temperatures, though. I think a kind thought for everyone in the path of a storm. Be safe, guys and gals.

And i got an early bird word of the day thanks to James :D

My love for precise vocabulary usually outpaces both my ability and my opportunities to employ language in a truly satisfactory manner. It is a pleasure and a blessing when factors converge that allow me to stumble upon a confluence of clarity that manifests itself in a sentence or two that actually makes sense.

In other words, there are a lot of fancy talk and thinkin's bouncing around in my head, and sooner or later even a blind squirrel finds an acorn. ;)

Thinking about getting a Husqvarna hatchet. Only hatchet I have is one of the Gerber plastic handled thingies. It does work well, but a big chunk of plastic was knocked out the first time I used it. It does take a mean edge though. It'll easily shave the hair off my arm right now.

I don't know where the rest of them are made, but the X series of Gerber's are made in Finland and have a lifetime warranty, AFAIK. I have a hatchet and mid size axe, and people can give me grief about the "plastic" (actually fiber reinforced or glass filled nylon) haft all they want. Those things are tough and work great. Ask bladite. That's what he owns.

Don't get me wrong, I like it, just saying that apiece did break off the first time out. Haven't had any problems with it after that. I still want a Husqvarna though, haha. I have 4 axe heads I need to give a new handle to as well.
