Gareth bull: Slow Delivery/waitlist thread

Wow! Great update--that picture shows how much you've got going on right now.

What is the purple burl I see? I love that--sure would look great on my small warlock...:D

Cheers,
Daniel

That blue bolstered mother of pearl beauty looks good , I wanted a phantom in gold lip asked you on Britishblades-CC but had I known the backlog I'd have not asked .
Is that a variant you'll make as part of your range or a customised order ? .
Anyways I hope you find your balance and get to where you want to be Gareth all the best -you have a pm on bb from me -cult .
Good luck for the future and to those who have waited it'll be worth it cheers Wish I'd have got in a year ago before you became so popular :).

So here we are, another 2 weeks into this thread, and still, no one has posted about having a knife delivered. I tried e-mailing Gazza through his website, but the site is now down.

I got this message:
This message was created automatically by the mail system (ecelerity).

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

>>> info@garethbullknives.com (after RCPT TO): 550 Unroutable address.

I guess I should consider myself lucky. I've only been waiting 6 months (3 to 4 promised) and paid 1/2 down.

MadRookie is still sticking up for Gazza, so I guess there's still at least some hope.

Larry

Just a small correction here....

I am not "sticking up" for Gazza - I just reported what I saw.

Furthermore the GB knives I own are flawless products, again, just being honest, not "sticking up"

I have no influence over his work or delivery time frames - I am just a plain customer like most of you here - I too waited in a queue for my units - I can understand the frustration - been there, done that.

:)

I have been waiting since march of last year so right now I am positive I have probably been waiting the longest out of his list. I was promised my knife may of last year. Patience is key but I understand where a lot of you are coming from. I was a little frustrated too back then but now since I have more experience with custom makers I understand the way this works out.

I have emailed Gazza again with no reply.

last update I saw was on SAblade. He showed the knives he was taking with him to the sa blade show.

Notice how all the knives in the picture posted here are the knives he's taking with him... I'm not pointing fingers but unless there's more hes not taking pictures of, our knives are the Roughly cut shapes to the left of the original picture.... I just hope I'm wrong...

I have 6 Gareth Bull knives on order, which I gave Gareth the permission to display at the show and will hopefully be collecting next Friday at the show. In the pic above I can maybe only recognize one (mine are a mix of different steels, scales (exotics), sham, warlock, Small and large) so I'm hoping there will be many more than what's just in the pic, I have waited over a year for these. My small warlock that I received was also about a year.

Yah Idk how this is all gonna play out. hopefully he chimes in. Im just curious when my knife will arrive seeing as how he guaranteed it done 2 weeks ago.

"Notice how all the knives in the picture posted here are the knives he's taking with him..."

I've been watching this thread a long time, and the emerging picture does seem to be one of a maker who has taken orders (and at least sometimes money) without delivering knives. Then has made knives, presumably having folded that money into materials and tools, for immediate local sale.

I don't know that to be true. Dozens of customers could find new knives on their doorsteps tomorrow. But that seems ...unlikely, to put it mildly.

Just check my payment history and it has been a year to the month thus far since my deposit was sent. We made the deal a month or two before. I offered the deposit to secure the project and assist with any material costs.

Now more than a year later I'm still fascinated with his work and excited about receiving the blade once complete. I know it's been a long road for Gareth and he's had dome complications, but by now he should be able to stick to a timeline. Meeting a commitment date when quoting two weeks should be practical. I will continue to wait; it's been this long.

PS - He's not returning my e-mails either. Sent two in the last month. No response.

I find if I want to get an email, then i post in this thread. he usually responds after that.

I too still find his work amazing but that can only go so far. I'm curious to see if the knives ship out before or after the show, and if he if selling knives at the show or just displaying already paying customers knives for everyone to see.

good luck to all involved

Agreed. If Gazza has made knives to sell at the show while failing to fill customer orders that have been standing for over a year, then something is amiss. But without updates, it is impossible to know. Of course, even with updates, promises have failed to be kept.

Actually, it is very common practice for custom makers who have outstanding orders to still book tables at shows and arrive with knives to sell. Happens all the time. I think the feelings of bitterness arise when people pay up front for custom knives and then have a certain expectation. When that expectation is not met, they become upset. IMO it is never a good idea to pay upfront for a custom knife order and all too often it ends in tears.

Gareth has set expectation when quoting completion dates. Dates come and dates go for many and still patience persists. I don't care what business you are in you have to meet your commitments and keep your word. I do understand extenuating circumstances, but not on high frequency.

Business owners should make clear expectation up front so no clarification is needed and no commitments are failed.

PS - my dad ran and still runs a family business to this day....40+ years.

Saw your updated post and thought you had some new info today....too bad.

I was kind of hoping someone else had updates that's why I bumped it. He says he is still hoping to get the knives out before the show but I'm not holding my breath as of now.

A sneak pic of the knives I will be collecting on Friday, been A LONG wait. Still one more to go but at least they coming.
