Gayle Bradley Hard Use

Friar,

Any thoughts on that SE M4? I have asked Sal for a sprint SE in a boutique steel but the interest never gained steam. I would bet a full SE in M4 would be the cat's pajamas

I somehow just realized today that these have a state of Texas outline on the bavk, which has finally put me over the edge. Just trying to decide between buying a domino for now and waiting on the GB2 or just getting one of these already. Any guesses when the new one comes out or a price?

No word yet but I'd guess it comes out late this year and MSRP is about $20 higher than the current version.

I have no idea how a Spydie edge GB would work out. I like the Veff serrations a lot, and the M4 steel means I can lay into the serrations and not worry about them breaking. I can't tell if it's the serrations or the steel or the combo of the two that makes the knife just tear through tough material. But I really like the version I have. It gets carried a lot and sees a lot of use.

Someone really likes the GB.

This thing's so hard-use, it needs the lanyard to keep from tearing a hole in the time-space continuum. Courtesy of Steve Ketchen.

Was really hoping they would make this one in the USA. Anything with a Texas state logo should be required to be made here. Will still probably get one though.

Yeah I know what you mean. It does feel a little out of whack. But as far as construction, fit & finish, and overall workmanship is concerned, Taichung is Spyderco's best manufacturer. I'm glad the GB's made there.

Sorry for the ignorance, but as a native Texan and spyderco fan I am wanting to get a GB. Can anyone tell me the difference in the new one? Trying to decide if I should hold out for it

Here you go: GB1 on top, GB2 on bottom.

Biggest things to note:

1. GB2 eliminates the 50/50 choil on the blade.
2. GB2 has a zero blade angle, as opposed to the GB1's negative angle.
3. Handle and blade on the GB2 are more streamlined and thinner.
4. If I remember accurately, the GB2 is also lighter and thinner in the hand as well.

I honestly believe that they'll be two distinctly different enough knives to merit having both. At the very least, the GB1 will be phased out once the GB2 hits, so it'll be a collector of sorts.

Thanks so much friar. Once I got past the picture and started reading I had already realized I probably just needed both

You and me both! :D The current GB is a great knife. I imagine the GB2 will be a slimmer, more "gentlemanly" version of its ancestor. Also worth considering will be the GB Flipper collab with Spyderco. I've been told/read that it's based on this custom:

If it's anything near as good as the GB collabs so far, I'll be all over it!

When is that supposed to happen?

No timeframe on either the GB2 or on the GB Flipper. I'd expect the GB2 late this year, and the flipper sometime in the middle of 2016. But Spyderco has gone from 0-60 on other knives in a shorter time frame. I'm just trying to keep from getting disappointed. :D

Damn, I need to get both now.

ARG!!!!!

Yes. Yes you do.

From that pic the new one appears high flat rather than hollow?

Overall, I love the new shape. Reminds of a more comfortable, hand-filling 940 that's also in M4.

Bradley flipper? Hadn't heard anything on that one?

Not a whole lot's known.

1. It's most likely based on his "Fancy Flipper" design.
2. Per Spydie GB models, it'll have CPM-M4.
3. It'll most likely be full Ti, with a RIL.

Beyond that, there's not much else available, and even those three points are likely to be inaccurate when the knife gets closer to production. I'd love to have Sal's input on the model.
