GEC 25s - Gots 'em?

I never could decide whether I preferred the triple threaded bolster as above, or the UN-X-LD stamped ones. Both terrific, thanks Sarah!

When I had #25 barlows with triple-threaded bolsters only, I hankered hard after the UN-X-LD version(s).

Now that I have both? It's a hard call.

I would have assumed the UN-X-LD barlows would win going away, but it's just not like that.

A good "problem," indeed. :)

Wow Sarah, that is..a sight to behold. That and only goes to show the hunt is rewarding in the end.

I always enjoy seeing your collection!

Jeff, Gevo,Sarah Thanks for your comments on my new 'fixed' 25 (sounds like neutering...) I didn't want to cause thread drift but when I saw this small Puukko on the dealer's table I was instantly reminded of weird stubby things.....

GEC, as Jeff pointed out, certainly has done matchstrikers on their own. Only they should be termed Nailslaughterers on this 73 of mine, I abhor weak pull but this one is impossible. Pity as the bone and construction are truly remarkable.

And back to the subject of 25s here's a pair of stag clad I like.

Perfect stag on the baby barlows, Will. I'd leave that #73 about 2/3 open so the spring is maxed out, for at least a couple of weeks. My primitive bone #78 jack came new with about an 8.5 pull on the clip main, so I did the 2/3 open thing. After about 3 weeks like that and working it open and closed a couple dozen times every few days, it is now a smooth 7.

It was almost like spotting that stray that could really use a good home...

A well used, but not completely abused Patriot Sheepsfoot Jack. Here being propped up by its Barlow brother.

The blades were really proud, the main kick needed a fair amount removed, the pen just a little bit. No wobble in either, a small burn mark on the pile side.

Decent patina on the blades, no nicks. Sharpening is nothing that can't be recovered. Some evidence of "tidying up" on the bolsters and caps, could have done without that, but again, nothing unrecoverable.

Good, solid user for the adoption fee of $40 and I'll be the one purring...

I finally have my first WLST!! I have been wanting one (a few actually) of these babies for a while now. Unserialized UN-X-LD bolster, exactly what I wanted. Built like a tank, I say! I love knives that are around this size, and this one is right at home in my hand and my pocket. I am so excited about this one! What say ye? It's prettier in person, cloudy flat light photo will have to do for today:

^ Thanks LastRodeo. It was actually unused, until today. I got it looking like I wanted it (patina), sharpened it up, cut some cardboard up with it, then photo op. Happy!

Sneaky devils, those gnomes. He pretends not to see it, but I know he'd be cutting with it right now if he could get his little mitts on it.:D

The gnomes at my house buy knives using my PayPal account, at least that's what i tell my wife. :D

Congrats on your 25 barlow, Brad; it looks marvelous!!:thumbup:
(I think you can buy a gnomicide to take care of those pesky garden gnomes. ;))

I'll second that! Thanks Sarah.

Me too

Me three. :)

Thanks, everyone. I am well-pleased to have gathered the selection that I have, and know that I am fortunate to have done so.

I'm hard pressed to identify which knife I like best, or even a top three, but am glad for every one of them-- I enjoy them together, for comparison, contrast, and consideration of complementary configurations.

Or maybe it's just that they look so fine in array.

Stunners there, Will. Have I mentioned recently how glad I am that you learned to post pictures? :)

Whoa... very nice save! Nice photograph of the shield lettering, as well. If I recall, you prefer your blades clean and clear (no etch). Was there anything of the Patriot etch (one of the relative few I appreciate in and of itself) remaining before your own ministrations, or is the above pretty much how the knife came to you?

What say I? Wharncliffe main? Check. White bone? Check. You have yourself a quintessential beauty!* Congratulations.

The secondary blade: looks like you have one of the rare(r) backside pen secondaries...? Sweet!

Iffn you have just one? There's one to have.**

*I reserve the right to accurately apply "quintessential beauty" to any #25 knife
** Ditto, "... that's the one to have" and/or any similar sentiments.
