GEC 25s - Gots 'em?

So very cool!

Well, I have some new additions too and spurred on by AKC's magnificent collection I decided it's about time I did a groupie but first; my 2012s

and my Barry Johnson quad;

The barlows;

And finally the whole lot;

.... and just for the craic;

You guys have really inspired me in finding a 25... I keep watch and someday one will turn up.

Thanks to pgockley I will have a #25 easy open in blue camel bone soon! I am happy he offered to sell me one of his #25's and in the version I wanted most.

Glad to assist Driften. Helping other knife nuts obtain the objects of their desire is one of the benefits of belonging to BF. Great community here.

I posted this as an example in another topic and the resemblance to the GEC 25 struck me. I don't see a size listed... might be larger... but the proportions look similar. It reminds me of Barry's recent SFO with the sheepfoot blades.

Possibly a historical precedence for the pattern. And it was Chas. Downings favorite! ;)

My #25 came in today and I am very happy with it! This is a great pattern for a knife. It would be nice to at some point add another one in a different blade style but still want the easy open versions. But not for today! For now I am happy putting this one into my pocket.

The 25 is really growing on me like a fungus.

I'll add it to my (not) short list of patterns to get. You guys are really making me drool here.

Residing in the back of beyond and on the wrong continent, I was unable to attend the recent GEC rendezvous. However, a very generous man kindly stepped up and offered himself as a proxy. Given the recent run of #25s in late 2015 I was hopeful that there might be a rendezvous special or two in this pattern (which I adore) and I hoped that if it were so, I might be able to obtain something of the offering. As it turned out, they went with the eureka and the mustang but not to worry; my volunteer is a quite extraordinary person with bizarre powers of procurement who, while following his own busy schedule in Titusville, was able to find me these two lovely pieces which are currently flittering across the great Trans-Atlantic Postal Highway.

I love this thread and was re-reading it again when I saw a post that made me giggle;

Post #33 on page 2:
Got this one a while back, I like it quite a bit. It's had a little pocket love so far. Pull's stiff but not overly so.

I think I'll be getting a few more.... :D

Hmmmmm lets fast forward;

Huge Imari platter courtesy of my great-aunt, a bequest from many years ago. I thought it would make a nice background, and suddenly I was curious to see if I could fill it.

Ayup, sure can. But there's still room for a few more... :rolleyes:

~snip~

See? It's a healthy habit... :D

Healthy indeed! I see your first still sits at the top :thumbup:

....I think you did!

Sheesh! Looking at some of the last few pages, you guys set the bar pretty high, you know!

My humble trio...

This Barlow was my first GEC. I bought it used, when I decided to get into some traditional patterns, after researching a handful of storied old knives I was given by an old time banjo luthier whose tools I sharpened up a couple of years ago...
I guess you could say it set the hook good!

This lucky find soon followed. The old boy I got it from clearly enjoyed this one, and carried and used it as it was meant to be used. He wasn't even sure what model number it was when I bought it from him. I gave it a clean and thinned out the edge and sharpened it up, but after realising what it was, it's just kind of sat in a box since then...

This next one I really like. I bought it after thinking I'd lost my most carried and used GEC to date: the 26 Li'l Carver. The 26 had slid out of the pocket of my hiking pants and under the back seat floor mat while I was driving. After I found it again, it went back to bein' my all purpose, utility razorsteel claw, and the 25 sheepfoot's still waiting for a chance to go into the daily carry queue. Beautiful and super useful looking little knife, though.

So there you go. Three little beauties that don't get used a whole lot, because that knife skulking up there in the back of this photo - my least liked GEC when I first got it - is just so dang useful!
