GEC #35 Churchill Thread

I think the Churchill naming IS rather more likely to refer to the type of Cigar he may have chomped on rather than his head. :D

I think you're probably right there, Will. :D (I thought the Churchill/cigar connection was obvious, but perhaps that was just me.)

My stag showed up today. Very happy overall. The figuring and color is just how I like it. Matching of the sides Is great. It gets super thin next to the spring, but hopefully that won't create any problems over time. This is going to get a lot of carry.

I am so impressed by this red bone jigging - its a level up from what GEC normally does

The jigging does look very nice and the color is very attractive. Here's a couple other pics that I took that might show those attributes a little clearer.

I was a little nervous about how the color would look on my particular example because I didn't get to see the actual knife I bought until I opened the package which is perfectly understandable. Can't expect individual pics unless it's Stag or something with unique characteristics.

I was pretty happy when the knife popped out of the wax paper.

Nice! Reminds me of the jigging on the spring green courthouse whittlers.

Also, the way the color of the bone changes from deep red to almost white is where the magic happens. You get a cloudy/mottled look because of the way the dye soaks into the bone. GEC is not normally very good at this transition - they are either too dark or (normally) too light. I have other knives that show this effect far more clearly.

I know that I have shown this picture before but :

The more I Coon Finger and Chicken Eye this knife , the more impressed I am . I normally am a Jack Knife type fan but I like this knife a lot . It is a very serious kind of knife . It is not a childs knife . It is for an adult to use to do some serious work . It has 2 great working type blades . It fills your hand well . I bought this to be a Christmas Gift for a relative , but that may very well change . GEC did a fine job on the knife that I received . No issue at all .

I believe these are being made in a larger quantity than we think. I know one distributor that expects to get a decent amount of them.
Today I saw a seller who has them on the way. Not sure about them but like the humor, would be really diferent from anything I have so far.

Thanks for posting the AAPK forum knife Railsplitter!!:thumbsup::cool:
Color and jigging look Great!! Can't wait for mine to arrive!! :D

Dave

You're welcome, Dave. Glad to hear that you are getting one!

I like to keep my avatar updated with the knives I'm currently carrying so tomorrow I'll have to make sure and do that. I wonder if Bill Howard would get a kick out of knowing that one of his knives finally kicked my Queen Railsplitter out of my pocket.

That Queen Railsplitter had a loooonng run, Rick!

Yes, the jigging on that AAPK version is a revelation:thumbsup:
Also the colour's excellent, CASE could learn here how to make proper red tint ( a thing they used to excel at:rolleyes:)
Great item Rick.

Harry's right, these are a serious pattern and yet not a house brick in your pocket. Up for work yet ideal in the hand or pocket-the real qualities of a 'pocket' knife:)

I'm thrilled with my Cougar :D and really do think the pattern's a Knife of the Year candidate - let's vote on that in January.

Regards, Will
