GEC #35 Churchill Thread

My ebony arrived a few days ago. It's my favorite out of the three I own:thumbsup:

Finally starting to get some patina and the action is starting to smooth out . When I first got her she was pretty stiff and the main blade didn't want to close ( not much snap ). I put a little oil on the pivot and the next morning it had zero snap closing. I think whatever buffing compound that was in there turned to paste. After a lot of flushing it got better but still not what I would call good. I realized that the tang was rubbing the liners so broke the corners and polished up the flats on the tang. That and a little gentle side to side torque applied to loosen the pivot up just a hair now she is perfect! :D

Wonderful, Paul! It is such a great knife and has become one of my very favorites. Glad you were able to land one.
Thanks Dylan, I agree that it's a great knife...clip and sheepfoot make a great blade combo:thumbsup:

Very nice fbc!!! Odd how some arrive (no matter the model) with no issues at all and others are plagued with issues. Happy that yours were resolved. I have experienced the same issues you mentioned and with similar steps taken to correct them. Mine arrived and of the three I own it quite possibly was the smoothest of the litter:)

question for y'all. how is the canting on the blades?

I didn't think they were canted at all but you made me take a second look. Blades are offset. Below is one of my Rust Red variants. I have other Churchills but this is the only one that I've checked for blade cant.

Much to my surprise, the Sheepsfoot does appear the be slightly canted.

I had to take a second look as well; I couldn't see the canting much until I lined everything up with a straight edge and now I can see a gentle cant in both blades.
Looking hard at this model its really amazing there's no blade rub; the design and execution are superb. Everything fits together with such tight tolerances it really exemplifies GECs excellent craftsmanship.

I was out walking the dog and I thought "wait a minute, my pictures show blade crinking, not canting". In light of that afterthought, here's some additional pics just in case I had the wrong idea about your question.

I would say that canting is very minimal on both blades. I certainly don't notice it when using either blade.

And just for the heck of it, underblading is very minimal as well.

I finally dropped the sheepsfoots height on this one; I spent a lot of time cutting rubber hose today and it was bugging my palm.
I like the feel much better now, and at this height the spring has just begun to sink when open, but almost imperceptibly.
I can't see it, but feel it just barely.

much obliged, its the unevenness that that creates because of the position of the second blade. i had managed to find a picture on collectorknives because they have an EDC but i decided against it in the end.

Good job! I really wanted to purchase a Churchill, but knowing that the sheepsfoot would be protruding into the fingers, I held back.

Thanks. I'm not sure why they chose to let the blade ride so high, especially since there is so much room inside the frame for it to sit lower and more comfortably. It also seems easier to open, since the nick sits in a more "natural" position.

Yes that's to bad its set up like that,if it was a pen blade I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue.

It's an easy mod, but ya gotta be fearless!
