GEC #35 Churchill Thread

I've used this one since last October and I haven't noticed the sheepsfoot being to high. It rides between my fingers unnoticed.
I would say it's the best pattern GEC has ever run.

Don't tempt me! I've convinced myself that it would bug me :p

Good decision :D
The 35 was my first GEC and probably still my favorite; I can't believe they still have some in stock.

there are plenty left in certain places, just not the ebony. well this one was an put in the "edc" section cause it has a flaw supposedly but it seemed minor at best. should make it easier to toss in pocket.

I too find new GECs hard to start carrying, since they come so nicely finished. Minor flaws can be good thing if they help the knife live the life its intended for. Especially the 35, its too great of a pattern to live in a tube or on a shelf. Unless it has twin of course ;)

Oh man this thread is tempting me to get another 35. First GEC I ever bought was a BF harness jack and I can't bring myself to carry it. It's just so nice. Been tempted to get a Churchill as a user.

You won't regret it. I went the opposite route. I got a 35 in hummingbird acrylic before picking up that harness jack. I liked my churchill so much that I didn't want to replace it with the harness jack (and I haven't been looking to add anything to my total number of knives).

Haha, I can totally see how you would love the Churchill. Ultimately for me, the secondary sheep's foot will offer more utility. The HJ I bought from you has a bit of sentimental value now since it was my first visit to the realm of traditionals, so I want to hang onto it. I did actually use the awl one day to make another eyelet in my worn out leather belt. Man did that awl make short work of the leather! After that I knew i had to keep it.

I definitely wouldn't suggest that you sell your HJ! I thought I might use the awl to poke new holes in my boys' belts, but I don't do that as often as I use my sheepsfoot on the Churchill. I think if I were to get a Churchill in a different cover it would be either the ebony or the maroon micarta.

I'm definitely keeping it. It's such a great pattern. The shape and size is so easy to carry and it disappears in the pocket. I flip flop between all those cover materials you mention. If I got one today, it would be either the acrylic or the micarta.

I haven't been too bothered by the feel in hand of the sheepsfoot when the main blade is open, but from an aesthetic standpoint, I don't like being able to see the sheepsfoot from the front when the knife is closed. It's a trivial thing, but I wanted to see what I'd get if I filed the kick a bit to lower the sheepsfoot. Yanno what? I think I do like the feel in hand better with the lower second blade. Hummingbird may be next to get that treatment.

It seems you could drop the nick all the way down to the frame, or even below if you were so inclined. There is a lot of clearance inside the frame and the edge touching is of no concern.

Although I wasn't initially attracted to the equal-end/cigar pattern, I'm glad that this knife came into my possession...what a nice user! That sheepfoot is like a laser. I don't move the knife to open shipping bags, just put the point down on the table & slide the bag through. I carry this knife a lot. If I'm carrying another, usually it's along with this one.

Was listed as a 'Cull Stag' on CK. Yep - I think it's pretty cull. My first new stag-handled knife. The mark side has a contour that kinda reminds me of something. Soup Stag? :p:D

Nice Knife :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Personally, I really like *ugly* stag and have managed to accumulate 2 or 3 really unique *ugly* stag GEC's.

The #35 is one of my favorite patterns for use/carry :)

I'm pretty sure that for once, I was in the right place at the right time, and got first pick of Mike's cull stags. To my eye, this is at least as good as some 1st grade stag I've got, and even has perfect thickness. Great knife. Shown here with it's usual partner.
