Gec #38 whittler

The 38 may just be the perfect slip joint IMHO. Covers all bases for me. As sleek as the #12, allowing for a nearly 4 inch knife to carry like a much smaller knife, good size clip blade for food prep and portable steak knife, small sheepfoot for precise cutting, and a pen blade for general smaller tasks. Her's my Ebony

I just ordered the 38 Northfield Neptune Acrylic based on my like for my new Green Bone Whittler.
I’m outside my comfort zone on this one because I left the psychodelic colors and lava lamps a life time ago. I’m more for the subdued color scheme of things these day; no flash to draw attention, but I really believe this will be a favorite. Photo down the road a bit.

You wasted no time in putting that whittler to work, Lemmy!

I have the Tidioute ebony and the Northfield rosewood. One thing I noticed is the Northfield seems to have satin finished blades as opposed to the typical mirror polished. Anyone else notice this? Not complaining. I prefer satin to polish...

The #38 is a great pattern and I love the knife ...... but the jury is still out on the camel bone.

Silence is deafening lol but I take it that if both main dealers have no comment, it must mean there isn't a stainless version of this folder? I really love my Seahorse by Case and this pattern is certainly similar and I'd buy one if it were only stainless, as I've broken away from carbon blades altogether.

Man those look great, does anyone know if they have any in 440C yet?

Didn't even see this until you posted your response. No, there are no stainless. The stainless would be a GEC brand knife and they are generally slow movers. But if Bill gets a burr, he might make some one of these days.

That's certainly a gorgeous knife, Lemmy!:thumbup: The fact that YOU compare it very favorably to a #12 impresses me a lot, because I tend to think of you as a toothpick kind of guy for some reason. :D:D (Maybe I'm still thinking about that "red hot pepper" toothpick you rehandled last fall. ;))

Thanks Mike! Hope he gets that urge some time soon, they look really nice!

I really like your camel bone. Never seen the black before, on any knife. Really unique.

Here's some stag. No 2 natural on top and an unnumbered burnt below. Sorry about the cell phone snaps. I'll try and get some better shots soon.

They are very nice if I do say so myself.

I don't know if this has been discussed or not but I would love to see this pattern with smooth Ivory bone handles! With the Gabon Ebony what a beautiful pairing that would be.

I was trying to resist but this thread isn't helping. I wonder if it's to late to track down a Neptune blue one?

That's the one I finally decided to order! I really liked the jigging on the red bone Northfields but the cloud shield on the Neptunes was too much to resist.

Good luck tracking one down!

A curvy companion to my favourite Executive Whittler, but clip instead of wharncliffe main....

Would anybody have an Executive Whittler to picture next to this whittler, you know, to convince me I don't need it....

I'll certainly look at any other pics you're willing to post. :D:D
