Gec #38 whittler

Rachel, I'm certain you will not be disappointed by it!

You get one large and broad Clip blade that's like an Opinel for slicing, two other really decent secondary blades for all sorts of tasks. It feels like a single-blade in the hand yet you get three, not at all heavy, carries most tidy. Most importantly, it looks superb.

Just excellent!

Regards, Will

Rockon75, thanks for the comparison with the Queen whittler. They really are pretty much the same as far as dimensions and curves go. Not sure if you said the age of the pearl Queen ?

It was manufactured around September of 2012. It is 1 of 100 and commemorates the Daniels Family taking the lead at Queen. It is tang stamped with Queen and S&M stamps and has the "Dawn of a New Era" etch.
I'll say this, they are similar in shape, but he #38 is more rounded and feels more slim, and more comfortable. The Queen feels a little blocky, but is still the looker of the bunch.

Thanks, Will. You're right, I am impressed. Even knowing the dimensions, it's longer than I pictured it. But so elegant!

I made a promise to not order anymore knives until I sold a few......................well you guys wore me done and I broke that promise. I ordered a #38 today. Can't wait for it to arrive!

I took a few pictures of my new #38 next to my #57 for comparison:

I prefer shorter blades, as on the #57 for better control when whittling, but for a daily use knife, I think this #38 will be perfect. It has the blade variety of a stockman, but in such an easy to carry, and elegant package.

Man those sure are nice looking.

Keep me in mind if they get a stainless version made

mine arrived yesterday unexpectedly fast. Amazing fit and finish on this, such tight tolerances, but no play, no bladerub, no gaps, excellent walk and talk and practically zero edge grinds on the blades.
I have a few whittler knives, the most comparable is the Russell era Hen and Rooster, made for the Jack Daniel's Directors.
Here are a few comparison photos:
GEC is a little compacter than the Hen and Rooster, but the same proportions:

different style of backspring construction, the Hen and Rooster leaves the middle spacer out, with just two triangular springs:

different style of blades, with GEC having more elaborate swedging, but the Hen and Rooster having a thinner ground and higher polish:

the colour of the bone is really nice:

Nice comparison and while I love my 38's, the Hen & Rooster looks like an amazing knife with a very high level of finish as well as some nicely aged oak covers!

Thanks for the comparison, fatcorgi! Those are a couple of splendid knives.:thumbup:
I think the jigging on your GEC 38 is incredibly appealing!

My #38 is developing quite the patina after about 2 months of every day carry:
