GEC #56 Dogleg Jack Spear

Thanks Lance, its Tube is hidden away in some cupboard whereby if you open the door you get buried under an avalanche of knife boxes and odd&ends:D I know it's not Grizzly Cut, think it was just called Black Bone, but that's a misnomer. The bone is interesting as it's a cream/buff colour near the liners and a kind of black/brown liquorice on the uppers. Don't think they've used it on another knife and this is one of 25 I believe. Nice domed pins too, no sink-holes then...;)

Very cool, Will! Thanks for the info. I'd like to see them use that bone again.

I like em all. I should create a bare end/bolstered end buying filter just to save some dough tho. o_O

What’s the term for the butt end bolster? Something about the 56 and 78 styles with the smaller butt end bolster really appeals to me.

Thought I’d try something different since I’ve been on a single blade run with most patterns lately and broke the ice just now and ordered a 2 Blade 56 in natural micarta.

Got my 56 in today. This is a knife/pattern that I took a chance on, having never handled one before. Being initially disappointed in the jigged bone color choices, getting this knife in hand has changed my perspective a bit. Though I still have my favorite color/material choices, I am pleasantly surprised at how much I like this knife. It is ergonomically different than I am used to but not in an unpleasant way at all. It nestles in the crook between fingers and palm remarkably well.

It is the 2-blade version and that adds a bit of girth and heft to this knife, making it feel bigger and beefier than I had expected. The walk and talk is decent, though it will improve with a good flushing I think, the pulls being in the 6-7 range for both blades. As someone has already noted, no half stops on this.

Overall, the fit and finish on this knife is on par with what I have come to expect from GEC, and it is most excellent. Though the color of the covers was a bit off-putting at first, it is starting to grow on me and I think that with use and time, the colors will meld and mellow and will possibly achieve that "vintage" look that so many old knives possess. The bomb shield is most excellent on this knife and is one of its prime aesthetic features, in my opinion.

I am going to enjoy this knife, it has replaced the 78 I previously had in my pocket for today's carry.

Thank you, fellas!

I am certainly looking forward to carrying this one quite a bit in the future. I am hoping that I have a reserve on a single blade Northfield in the Appaloosa Bone. It will be nice to compare the single and 2 blade blade variants.

Also received my 56 today. Unfortunately it's already pitch black outside. So hopefully tomorrow I can get some pictures! Actually like the yellow in person but the sheild is what really made me pull the trigger :cool:Top notch fit and finish!
Amazing pictures! Wouldn't be surprised if one of the online dealers offered you a job!:D:cool:

The mustard jigged bone is classic and in my opinion will age wonderfully. The knife already looks like its from the past already. Marvelous and at 3.5" ...even better. Great write up and photos Dylan !!

I fought it for as long as I could , but have just ordered a mustard jig bone jack, I see a longish soak in the coffee pot to darken the covers a tad. Now I just have to settle in for the wait while USPS and our Royal Mail do their work.
