GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

I am really impressed with my first #77 Barlow. I find F&F to be a strong 9. The pull on this one - even after service for its first use - is a 7 or 8. I really like the match pinch and it works really well. Captures the fingernail for a full opening that makes half-stop sweep by. This #77 is very snappy and goes to all three positions with authority. This is my first clip point pocket knife. I'm looking forward to using the blade for my not usual tasks. Visually the blade is appealing, so I'm looking forward to its performance.

HST : I think you will like your 77 a lot as a user .
It is certainly a real looker and you have taken an interesting photo of it.
Thanks very much for your posting of it. I like to see pictures of them as well as use them .

Sadly, I just don't think the 2 blade NF77 is for me. I picked up a used Sawcut Red Bone a couple of months ago, and while it is gorgeous, I never enjoy carrying it. It's too noticeable in the pocket for me. I hope to try a single blade NF77 (Spear, Wharncliffe, or Sheepsfoot) one day, but unless I find a trade, I don't think I'll be dropping that kind of coin.

this just got in, and I love it

much obliged to traumkommode for letting it go at a reasonable price!

This isn't my first 77, but I agree about the fit and finish and the pull and snap. It's about the perfect size in hand. I want to prefer the 15 just because it's smaller, and therefore less in the pocket, but as you can see, this knife and my hand are having quite a love affair.

I've read this thread with much interest. I have a strong preference for a "15 frame" - I only own one 77 of the original run. But the match pull and deep belly of the latest run hooked me. Managed to snare a copperhead 77 today and am really looking forward to getting it to hand. There's something about the craftsmanship of these SFOs that is truly impressive (for a factory run). If I can take out a second mortgage I might punt for a spring green 77. Maybe ... It's great to see everyone enjoying these knives.

I can't get over how great Those copperhead sawcuts turned out!

I decided to show my 77 some TLC last night. First, I reprofiled the edge on the spear. It had become very obtuse and wouldn't hold an edge very long. Then I gave the bolsters a polish. Last year when I got the knife it had a hint of play, and just coming from moderns like Chris Reeves I was overly anal about it. I decided to give the bolsters a squeeze which exposed the pivot pin. This has always bothered me, so I finally took care of it. I got a little trigger happy with the polishing and ended up giving everything but the blades a quick once over. I also gave the bone a mineral oil soak which brought it back from the dull/ dinged up shape it had developed.
I am so pleased with this knife!

Must have been another one. This one just had Natural Burlap covers installed on it for a friend. I begged and pleaded until he traded it to me. [emoji6]
