GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

My barlow's bolsters have already gathered quite a bit of patina, I can't figure out if they were steel or nickel silver.

Bolsters are steel. I believe only the original release(s) had nickel silver bolsters. See post #2682: the knife with the Wharncliffe blade has NS bolsters; the other two have steel bolsters.

Well after just a couple days mine have more a a matte-finish sort of look, they almost completely lost their polished appearance. Should I flitz them and how do I prevent this from happening?

Both the steel and nickel silver bolsters look great. I am partial to the NS bolsters with copper liners myself but only with the right scale combo. It would be great to see more of that produced in the future just because its a little different.

Flitz and then apply Frog Lube. They will stay in perfect condition.

Looking good, Paul

We're still in the 70's here. After the summer that we've had, I could do with 39*.

Thanks again Daniel for helping my acquire the knife, I love Charlie's TC's and Mike's NF Barlows. It just pulled Apple slicing duty so the patina begins;)

Let them go BlockPhysco, Let them go:D no, just ribbin ya. I understand both perspectives, let age naturally or keep pristine. I just love a knife that ages is all:cool:

Arizonaranchman has two very nicely naturally aged NF Barlows he posted here that have the most wonderful natural patina I've seen in a long long time:thumbup:

Great looking Barlows tmd_87! Love the patina on the blades. I'm sure many of you will think its silly but I've have been a little gun shy about using mine for anything beyond letter opening just yet. Just kind of admiring them, but I'm working on trying to get over that.

Thanks! These 77s are great blades!

This had to hurt! The egg weighed in at 3.2 ounces!

Ron,

Awesome pic. I am enjoying the same pair although the green is yet to make it in the pocket. Superb build quality in these knives.
