GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

tmd_87, that is by far the most beautiful version from this last run!
And that's saying a lot, because they all turned out great.

My most consistent companion since joining this fine community. It has spent probably 75% of the past 14 months in my pocket.

Tilly Knife that is a great lookin' barlow. I've really been thinking about adding a micarta 77 to my rotation.

I have the same micarta knife and it is a winner. Just one of those knives that are instantly satisfying - looks, weight, function are all perfect. The slightly thicker scales conpared to the saw cut version is just perfect.

I love the #77 Barlow. The single blade spear in micarta is my most carried traditional and one of two in my pocket almost every day. It's now joined by two others, all of which have exceeded my expectations. I could not ask for more in a traditional.

That is looking like it's settling in to a nice working life. Good to see these being used. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sure the answer to this question is right under my nose but I haven't been able to turn up the answer, so...

Are the bolsters of these knives steel or nickel-silver?

Thanks in advance!

Which run of the 77s? The last two runs(the matchstrike clip and the spear main) were steel. I believe the previous runs were all nickle silver.

Sorry, I should have asked specifically about the latest run. But you answered my question. Thanks!

It depends on which run the Barlow came from. The earlier runs with clip and wharncliffe blades, and the first run on clip blades had nickel silver, the most recent run of clips and the spear blade run have steel.
