GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

This may have already been mentioned, or, I just don't understand the micarta process, but this looks like antique ivory micarta. Will it change after completed to a brown? The other pics I have seen of natural canvas have all been a brown? Either way is fine by me. I am mostly curious if the end result will be this color, or another

Thanks

I wondered the same Brett, I wouldn't mind either, Ivory would be a very nice touch. All I want is some of that texture xD Looks great though~

I really like the color of the pre-buffed autumn gold... I wonder if they could do this color for a finished knife. It's got that old honey/molasses color going on.

I was thinking the same thing, if I could tell GEC to stop right there I would pick this up in a heartbeat.

Interesting that speculation about the micarta. I'm guessing here, but perhaps the buffing itself plus compounds cause it to change colour to the toffee shade of Natural Canvas?

I agree as well, stunning color that's right up my alley.

This picture also nicely illustrates why Mike thought that the chestnut 77's came out looking more like autumn gold.

Actually it kind of reminds me of my only other 77 just more unfinished on "ancient" looking.

Really like this one

Yep! The chestnut 77, mine says hi ;)

It was my first GEC, 3 days into what will hopefully a long life of carry time!

Edit: Just saw your post in totin'! Great minds...

Beautiful knives! I gasp every time I see one of those chestnut sawcut 77s w/ the clip/wharncliffe set up. I sure hope Mike does another SFO on that knife some day. They rarely show up on the exchange, for good reason.

Thanks I like mine a lot takes on totally different look in light and in shade. I picked mine up on the exchange a while back and wash rushing to type I'll take it as soon as I saw it.

I agree, mine looks exactly like yours in that kind of lighting. Really dynamic coloring.

I posted a WTB for it and somehow lucked out. Love carrying and using it, fantastic knife.

Crud.. I was all content and set for just 1 autumn gold... those stag pics from the last run and the talk of the ivory and micarta are killing my resolve...

The juxtaposition of your avatar and the opening of your post made me grin.

I awoke to an email notification from CK this morning only to learn I had left an unpurchased item in my cart. :grumpy: :p

You are not alone, my friend - I must have changed my pre-order at least a dozen times, especially after this thread. Finally, I pre-ordered one each to conserve time and effort (not money though). :D

Just put a 2 blade red Bone on order (I've also changed my mind at least a dozen times). I am very excited for this run. The all-steel construction and coping blade make this a really cool knife. Extremely usable.

Being a great user knife, I think I'll be OK with JUST ONE single blade and JUST ONE double blade. Until tomorrow...
