GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Northfield77redsawcut_zpsjt26kfgx.jpg

These are comping along beautifully :D

I have resisted the 77 Barlow so far, but the spear plus coping blade combo available in this current run made me decide to get one. Probably my last knife purchase for a while.

Glad I will be in for one of the red saw cut bone covers ( two blade)...these are looking very clotted blood red!

WOW!!! Nice!!

That LP spear / coping (behind!) combo with dark red sawcut bone is just pocket knife perfection! I fear this one could well knock my single sheepfoot 77 out of the #1 spot - we shall see... Can I carry two 77 Barlows???

Can't wait for these to come out. This is honestly the only new knife on my radar right now. I've been hooked on the 92 Eureka, and absolutely love this blade combination. I'm really hoping that the blade is pinchable as it is on the Eureka. With that swedge I can't tell if it will be.

My 77s have a stronger pull than the eureka, probably a 7 vs a 5. I'm able to pinch open both the clip point forum knife and the sheepsfoot barlow, but I have stronger than average grip strength (20 years upright bass playing will do that).

Still anxiously waiting to see if the coping is going to have a wraparound spring. I doubt it but it would be pretty amazing.

Will, Pm sent good sir. :)

Im on the list for the natural canvas and the ivory bone. Im really looking forward to both of these. I think they all are going to be incredible.

Much appreciated Brett, most decent:cool:

Something now to look forward to:D

Thanks, Will

I've been able to pinch open my previous 77s. My thoughts here are that with the coping behind the main it might sit high enough that you can't pinch above it and with that long swedge you might not be able to pinch past it either. I'm assuming that most people have the same problem I do with pinching the swedged portion of the blade.

It's not too much of a concern, as I can always make it an easy open if I have problems. I'm hoping to start seeing the double blade pictures soon, as this will be my first knife purchase in a couple of months and possibly my last of the year.

I really like the color of the pre-buffed autumn gold... I wonder if they could do this color for a finished knife. It's got that old honey/molasses color going on.

You're welcome Will. I needed to take care of another Ivory Bone fan.

The Ivory bone may not be the most popular, but I bet others will wish they had grabbed one when they could have. ;)

I'm really looking forward to this knife and letting it earn a patina. The contrast of ivory bone and patina is hard to beat imo.

Natural canvas micarta pics up on GEC's "What's Happening." ....

This may have already been mentioned, or, I just don't understand the micarta process, but this looks like antique ivory micarta. Will it change after completed to a brown? The other pics I have seen of natural canvas have all been a brown? Either way is fine by me. I am mostly curious if the end result will be this color, or another

Thanks

Man, I'm going to have to hustle when I get the email about the two blade sawcut being available!

Last batch, by the time I got to my office, the only one left was the stag wharnie...
