GEC 86’s for 2023

I can only comment on the knife I have. Not schmootz, discoloration. If by schmootz you mean leftover polishing compound that can be easily wiped away, then no. Black marks won’t just wipe away.
If it is bonded to the metal, I agree with others that it is heat treat oxidation..... Some facilities will use vibro or tumbling operations to remove oxides after heat treat.... Can also use glass beading.....

This is my first Smooth White Bone and my first Harness Jack. A special knife for multiple reasons!! Grateful to the Porch and one person specifically for the opportunity at this beauty!! You know who you are! 😁

That punch is a real nail-breaker, but it’s much smoother after flushing out the joints. What a stunning knife!

Too hot for pics, these will have to do until it cools off. The white (yellowish) bone on the right is off the hook, but the ebony is dark and dense. Pull on the punch is stiff ... great for functionality but not so great for my thumbnail.

Sheepfoot next to the clip. Am normally a clip fan but for a leatherworking tool a sheepfoot makes sense. Fine pair.

Oh my goodness!! I had no idea about the sheepfoot version until I seen this! All beautiful knives for sure. The soup bone is definitely my new "grail", but that sheepfoot is a strong contender as well!

we took the family to do a day mining outing and it was a lot of fun. I’d love tips and info.

I wish I had expertise to pass on but I’m a rookie! I was fortunate enough to speak to someone who does understand and they showed me 4 valuable necklaces side by side, each necklace with stones from a different mining region. This was how I learned that the mine matters. The color difference (maybe hue is the better term) between them was clear. Not a better or worse color but each beautiful in its own way!

Good luck on the hunt!

Everyone has been saying how nice the Ebony has been on these & will surely attest to that. Thank you again Mr. Campagna for another over the top HJ (and the fine work of GEC). Very blessed to have received one.
