Oh definitely. While searching the web over the weekend I came across a Redit thread full of hate and vitriol because people couldn’t land the CC Rider. It was pretty nuts. People were so mad. I was searching because I’d love to have one, beautiful clip and perfect punch, but these folks were just rabid!

I quickly headed straight back the porch to enjoy everyone happily sharing their HJs. Good reminder for me not to wander off again.

The chap didn’t wait 5min before getting on there to vent? Talk about in heat of the moment.

I wonder how many of those with vitriolic comments only wanted one to flip it and were denied the opportunity for profit. Passion for one's hobbies is fine, but not when it turns to anger, accusations and animosity. I gave up on chasing the GEC releases about a year and a half ago, and consider myself fortunate to have lived throughout the time when one could ponder a purchase before making it. If there is a knife I really want, I can still get one for a slight markup on the second-hand market because of the many thoughtful members of the porch community. No one is above getting their feelings hurt, but mending relationships is so much more rewarding than holding grudges. This is such a great place, and I'm always thankful to Gus, Elliot, Gary, Frank and Spark for keeping it that way.

Did anyone miss out on what they wanted?

The Soup bone or one of Charlie’s HJs. I never had much of a chance on the HJ, but I just kept missing the drops for the soup bone.

I had an opportunity to get both Riders, but decided to grab a River Town jack instead, lol. Partly because of insane currency exchange rates. Don't get me wrong, those Riders of Charlie are truly magnificent, just not what I feel spending unusual amounts on. Decisions, decisions... Missed the Marrow bone Barlow though, that is a little bit of a bummer.

can you blame them tho, some folks even on here couldnt wait to rub it in that they got two sets of HJs or every 86 from the run

I saw it as them spreading the joy rather than bragging,personally I like lots of photos.

I did offer a few people to get them one at cost if I could,didn’t I offer you I forget.

When I offered I looked at the post to years ratio some where only here for the exchange and didnt engage,those I didn’t offer.

Very happy with the 2 i've got from this run! The HJ looked great but i had an Angus 86 from the last drop and 2 layers on a 86 weight a lot in the pocket so i didn't even triy to get one of those...

The Marrow Bone barlow is now my favorite GEC knife ever in my collection!

I must admit i should have kept my 2AB Orange Bone Barlow from the last drop...

My big chunky 86 Angus Well Done

It was a nice run!

I didn’t go for these, but if it’s any consolation, the sheepfoot was the one to go for in my opinion.

Clip plus punch seems a bit redundant to me (I’ll admit it LOOKS coolest though) while a punch plus a long straight edge seems very useful.

And the red micarta looks like it’ll wear in nicely.

Honestly? Yes.
I think turning to these message boards in the heat of the moment is never a good idea.

That being said, seeing folk with full sets of the release could be a red rag to a bull if you’d tried and missed out but what you gonna do? Can’t seriously be a big conspiracy can it, it’s pocket knives
Certainly leaves me bemused but more along the lines of ‘how’ not skriking ‘why’.

I used to get a chance to pick up a new GEC every 12 month. Only 1 distributor here in U.K. and I’d see him every year down at a big Game Fair, basically a hunting show/market.
I’d have a look what he had to offer and if it tickled my pickle I’d have it away. I had no idea about “drops” and the like.
I bought them as in my opinion they are beautiful well made knives. Never entered my mind to collect them, let alone flip the things and I certainly wouldn’t be having a word with him because he didn’t have as much stock as I deemed he should

That’s a knife that’s just going to get better with age. Out of the whole release this one was pushing top of the list

GECs are cool, we’ll made, and fun to have; but there are a lot of really quality custom makers who can make a knife that hits the same aesthetic and quality (often better) than a GEC. If I miss a GEC drop I like to count that as money toward a custom that I know I can get and enjoy without having to stress about missing out. Plus, buying customs from guys who are just doing it for the love of the craft is rewarding the tradition just as much, if not more, than buying a GEC.

I bought this one from the store during my visit a few weeks ago. I was deciding between this one and another with similar grain. Bill Howard was in the store with us. He picked this one up and said this was his kind of knife. He said he liked a nice simple, straightforward knife. I was actually going to pick the other example, but instead picked this one because Bill had opened and closed it and handed it to me.
