GEC #86 2021: Angus Jack, 2AB, Spring Street Barlow (BF Knife)

I think the beautiful jigging, bolsters and blade selection far outweigh whether or not the inclusion of a shield is typically found on barlows. I find this one every bit as attractive as the 2019 BF annual. Complete home run, shield or not.

I think it's a little too busy with the shield and all the AAPK stuff. Would look cleaner without a shield and the blade etch.

I don't know if it's taboo to mention other knife forums (?) but this thread on GEC #86 2021 runs is the right place add this. Apparently there were some fancy bolsters leftover from the Spring St :) I think this one looks great!

Attractive knife, I kinda guess. Trying to be nice . . .

Shield on a Barlow is fine with me, but that particular big ol' etched shield . . . no. And the blade etch. And on the tang. Do we really need AAPK in THREE places? No, we do not. Do not want. Never Flitzed off a blade etch before, but that would be a first.

And that bone . . . what is it supposed to be, some sort of peach-seed deal? Looks cheap and ugly to me and some of the worst bone I have ever seen on a GEC. Looks like something on a Rough Ryder. Definitely do not want.

But other than that, I enjoyed the play very much - Mary Todd Lincoln.

That's an interesting take. I actually thought the bone was one of the nicest elements of the whole package, barring the bolster, of course. The jigging pattern reminds me a wee bit of what I see on a couple of my vintage Sheffield made folders.

Jeez I'd hate to read the review when you aren't trying to be nice lol. I agree it's a little overkill on the branding. I'm not fond of blade etches on any knives so flitzing that one off is the first thing I'd do. The shield doesn't bother me. But calling those bone covers cheap, ugly, some of the worst you've ever seen on a GEC, more like something on a Rough Ryder....wow. I think they look really nice. Reminds me of the covers from the 86 JSR SFO. But, everyone has their own opinions. Next time don't pull your punches, tell us how you really feel 😆

Man this one ticks a lot of boxes, nicks on same side, useful blade selection, especially that big ole pen blade. I like the covers and the very unique and special limited edition bolsters. The branding is a little over the top but the blade etch at least, will disappear with use. Bill designed them a pretty special offering in my opinion.

Snagged one. I feel extremely lucky to have a shot at this one. But I’m just not sure I am liking the stamp on the bolster or the stainless. The fit and finish on this thing is top notch and the walk and talk is phenomenal. I’m not sure if I’m gonna let it go or not. First world problems…lol.

I think a big guy like you could really get into carrying that one every day Taylor . That is a good looking knife .

Shield is just so wrong on a Barlow. If they wanted their initials in another place BESIDES blade etch AND tang, they should have had engraved on bolster like a PROPER Barlow.
