GEC Bullnose in Canvas Micarta and Linen Micarata have arrived-comparison pics!

Great review and awesome pic's Trev!!! My canvas arrived today so I'll try to take advantage of the light tomorrow and post some pictures.

As others mentioned---proud pin---don't see any issue, but curious as to why? Super sharp out of the tube

Really like this one...

Paul

Same here. As for the pin, I'm guessing it would have been smoothed out a bit with final polishing that never happened. I'm good with it though.

Great assessment Trev and great pictures. My two canvas versions arrived today and I did manage to put a GEC bail on one of them but I've had such a hellacious cold for the last few days that I just don't have the energy to set up a picture shoot. I will say for now that I really do like the proud pivot pin. It sorta gives the Bull Nose a more rugged look. I'll post pictures of mine when I feel better.

I'm surprised at how little extra blade length you get with the Bullnose over the smaller Country Cousin.
More handle for grip, but very little difference in the blade lengths.

I really like my canvas one that just arrived today. I tossed a lanyard on it and dropped it in the pocket. I might have to see if I can snag one the the bails for it sometime though.

Thanks for the comparison; my linen came today, really fast from CK. "Elegant sodbuster" is not an oxymoron in this case. Hopefully my next one will be in cocobolo.

Got my linen model on 12-28 and posted this in another thread:
Got my linen model today, two days earlier than USPS said it would arrive. This linen micarta bullnose has superb fit and finish. There are no gaps anywhere. The micarta is beautiful. Scale to liner fit is perfect, blade is centered. Blade grinds are perfect and the satin(?) finish is perfect, no spots or waves that I can detect. The slight swedge on the blade spine is a nice touch to the sodbuster pattern (not sure if other models have this). The spring is perfectly flush with the liners at the open and closed position, it is less than 1/64" lower than the liners at the half-stop position, just barely palpable, the spring pin is perfect to the scale, you can't even feel the pin with a thumbnail. The pivot pin is a bit proud, you can feel the edge with your finger, but those are the only imperfections (??) I can detect. Pull is perfect to me. I can pinch the blade open with very little effort, and using the nick is easy. I wish my Cocobolo 73 was fitted this nice. I think I'm gonna love this knife. It's like a custom knife on a budget.

And here it is after the paper wheels, not the best pic:

If GEC does the Bullnose in exotic woods, they would sell like hotcakes. I would love ebony and cocobolo.

Mine came today. Canvas micarta, sodbuster pattern with half stops and O1 steel - what's not to like ? The proud pivot pin on mine is very sharp on its edges. If you cut with a pinch grip, as I often do, it's s little uncomfortable. Tried a bit of sanding with some 600 grit sandpaper, but it had almost no effect. I'll have to find a way soften the edges, somehow, without marring the pin's collar.

Well, here are mine from earlier today. There us such a difference in character between the two finishes.

Thanks for the pics everyone! Love hearing everyone's thoughts on the these. Seems like they have been well received and I will echo what some others have said, some wood versions would sell like hotcakes! I know it will be a bit but let's start the push for the next run:D

Get ahold of one of those Dremel sanding/polishing bits with the cupped end. Probably the 1/8" size tip would do. Don't put it in a Dremel motor but twirl it holding it between your thumb and forefinger with the cup on the end of the pivot pin. Easy does it and you should be able to break the sharp edge of the pin easy-peezy. I use these sanding/polishing bits to turn/smooth pins on cover pins and spring pins when needed.

Mine came in today. I'm waiting for them to come back up to room temperature since they've been sitting in the near zero degree weather since this afternoon. These both look very nice. The canvas micarta bullnose looks great, and I really wish that I had ordered two of them. Once they thaw out, I'm going to check them over.

I'm crossing my fingers that these Bullnose micartas become a trend at GEC and with Collectorknives. It would be great to see some other colors like red, blue, black, and tan done in linen and canvas. I'm extremely impressed with these.

Great work, GEC and Mike!

Ed, that is a brilliant idea!

Where can I get the linen micarta one? I can only seem to find the canvas micarta which I don't really care for much.

There were only 50 canvas Bullnose micartas made, and only one knife dealer carried them. If any of the #71 Bullnose micartas are still available, it would be the linen micarta ones.

I am sending you a link via PM now.. There are some linen micarta bullnoses left in stock.

I agree. I think these green micartas are going to be my favorite GECs to date. If they do decide to do the bullnose in extoic woods and other colored micartas, I might have to start a bullnose collection.

Beautiful pictures guys! I had originally only wanted the canvas but after seeing the comparisons I might have to pick up a linen as well! I don't mind the newer proud pivot much, it almost looks better to me though I wish it wasn't quite such a sharp edge.

Here's mine I received today

Received my canvas this morning and agree with the favorable comments. Not quite perfect out of the tube, a little time to be spent getting the edge angle thinned (pretty obtuse at the tip) and rounding the sharp edges off the handle. Will most likely take it to 600 grit and then buff to bring out the pattern. These knives are really going to age well as the green developes the brown tones I like so much in this material.
