GEC Bullnose in Canvas Micarta and Linen Micarata have arrived-comparison pics!

Great pictorial, really helpful

Does anyone know if the liners are stainless or just regular steel or carbon steel or what? Just got mine and I love it (the linen micarta one).

Thx for the answer on the liners, I was curious about it as we'll. So far I haven't had any discoloration on liners or the blade after one week of carry and use. I guess low humidity is my friend ;-)

Hey everyone--I'm a HUGE fan of my Canvas Micarta Bull Nose as I believe many here are? The puzzle to me was the proud pin---no real issues with a proud pin other than MINE being quite sharp. I had heard others say they sanded the pin but it still remained sharp.

I didn't have the dremel tool Ed mentioned in an earlier post and wasn't going to go buy one either. So, what I did was, I took the pliers on my small Leatherman tool and grasped the pin lightly (not pulling or pushing the pin at all). What it did was I rotated the head of the pliers around the pin causing the small burr to lift ever so slightly. Then after some sanding of the pin it was very smooth. My finger/thumb actually glides over it now versus getting caught on it when first taken out of tube

While sanding the pin I thought I would lightly sand the covers of the Bull Nose (not needed) but I thought it wouldn't hurt it. Actually I like the end result so much more from when I started.

Here's some pictures.

Pin after my process. Slightly more "Doomed" now...

Here's another after shot. Apologizes for blurry pictures.

The before and after pictures may not show a huge difference because the process wasn't really that dramatic. However the feel from before and after is quite noticeable ;)

I recently got one with linen, but I'm jealous of those canvas ones. I usually don't buy multiples, but if the bullnose is made available again in canvas micarta I'll take it.

Unfortunately collectorknives.net won't ship to Europe, so I couldn't get one from that site. If canvas micarta models show up again I'll definitely try to find someone in the states that can ship one to me.

The #47 is begging to be made with micarta handles, my wallet is protesting, but you folks at GEC should just ignore its cries of suffering.

The knife I got has some flaws I wouldn't expect based on my other knives from. The fit and finish flaws are small, and they do not bother me on this knife. I might post pictures with examples later, and see if anyone else has the same flaws.

Nice remedy for the proud pin Paul. There's always more than one way to skin a cat.

Thanks Ed, I swear I have every Dremel attachment but that one :D But the day when you mentioned the Dremel fix, I instantly pictured the attachment you were referring to and thought that would be perfect. So my mind pondered the fix a bit and I came up with the remedy I mentioned above. I'm just happy that method worked

I just received my linen micarta version today and I am impressed. Of the dozen or so GECs I have owned this one exhibits the best fit and finish so far. It is a little ironic that the best one to date is a humble working man's knife but I am not complaining.

Kudos to GEC for turning out a knife of this quality.

It's a rare occasion here that we get to take pictures in the snow

Woodrow, I hope things are OK down your way. I saw where Red Stick got freezing rain/ice.

Are there any plans for other knives to be scaled in Micarta? Is there anywhere to look for upcoming releases?

Alternately does anyone have any info about rescaling one?

This one is coming out this week.

You can see the schedule on the GEC website or many of the dealers websites (I know myself and Bob Andrews try and keep one up to date).

Okay guys, I have to ask.....Is there anywhere that currently has these in stock? I would gladly take a Canvas or Linen? I've been looking, but so far no luck. Feel free to pm or email if its needed.

It would really help me out. Im in love with this one now, and all of a sudden the main sites seem sold out. Again, thanks, these knives are beautiful, Im jealous of you ALL!!!:D

Heads up for you micarta junkies... Mike at Collectorknives has done a SFO on micarta Bullnoses.

Red linen, Green canvas and Natural canvas. They look intensely sexual.

Just picked up a natural and a red myself.

I am a Micarta fiend. A Micartaholic. But sexual? There's a word for that...sexual fixation on an inanimate object... But I do not deny the sensual pleasure of the texture of canvas Micarta.
