Gec bullnose

if the od linens are heading out soon, then hopefully that means the red linens aren't too far behind -- and i hope there are plenty of them to be had for everyone, being a late addition and all.

I have a Red Linen Micarta Bull Nose from last year's run, and I've been curious to see the difference between the red and burgundy since they're doing both this year. Here's the red up on GEC's front page right now:

And here's an in-progress photo of the burgundy:

Looks about the same to me.

hmmm...i could be wrong, but i was under the impression that something about the lighting in gec's pictures makes things appear a bit darker or more saturated than in real life. could just be me though. i was thinking the same thing about the red and burgundy linens looking similar, until i noticed a pattern in coloration with pictures of other knives/handles.

Burgundy SHOULD be darker, those scales may not yet have been fully buffed I suppose.

Too bad they didn't do a Canvas general release though.

I don't think they have any pics of the Burgandy up yet. Both pics are of the Red.

Although they do mis-label pictures sometimes

It's the same red linen micarta that Smith & Sons uses on their Mudbug.

Not surprising since the Mudbug is made by GEC.

I see what you're saying. I was looking at the "What's In Production" page for the #71's, and not on the "What's Happening" page where the photos are labeled. That being said, however, if you look at the slip of paper at the end of the row of scales in that photo, I'm pretty sure it says "Burgundy" and it definitely says 103 pieces...

...while this photo shows a piece of paper that says "Red" and 152 pieces.

Of course, comparing those two photos, they do look a bit different, but it's tough to tell because the lighting is different, and the scales in the photo with the paper that says "Red" look lighter than the finished photo that GEC posted (they also look lighter than Red Mudbug Modoc ED posted, and lighter than my Red Bull Nose from last year). I'll be interested to see the two next to each other when they're both finished. Seems to me like they're going to be almost identical, but we'll see.

They seem like a couple of short runs to clean up material. They may have even both started life as red linen a few months apart and just needed to be qualified for this run since they varied a few shades.

You are exactly right. I noticed those same things, but couldn't figure out how to say it or show the pictures as well as you did! I have one of each coming just to see the difference in person! Mike could very well be right too. Thanks for the response!

Held off as long as I could. Just placed an order for the OD Linen Micarta.

Great to know you get some use out of the orange delrin soddy JB:) that was a while ago.
I wonder whatever happened to the guy who proposed the fireman knife with old canvas fire hose micarta- it came almost to fruition but sadly faded away never to be heard of again. The farm and field would have been a good style for that. OR even the #15 navy sheepsfoot style.
I can dream.

hey mike! any word on whether or not you'll be able to accommodate all of the early reservers for the red linens? i know you weren't sure how many you'd get, so we were all on standby. if this is an inappropriate question for me to ask, please forgive me!

Yep I had canceled my order thinking they would be the same as the other and would go with burlap. But now I have both coming and will have to see what they look like in my hands.

That canvas looks awesome Mike!
