Gec bullnose

I want to take the polish on my burlap bullnose that came in today after seeing all these pics. I thought the burlap would look more like the Provo burlap. Then again, the polished could grow on me once I get in the sun.

It only took the day for the polished look to grow on me. So solid.

See, this is why I avoid the porch. It just costs me money. Now I'm pretty sure I need a bull nose. Thanks guys.

You do. Of course you do. Everyone does. Theyre ergonomically perfect, after all. And I'm pretty sure I need a second for a "back up"...

I gave my Burlap the satin treatment. My son left his polished. Both are just great!! Thanks Mike

LOOKS EXCELLENT!
What method do you use to achieve the satin finish?

You satin treatment looks fantastic! I was just wondering what it would look like. You certainly answered that question. Can I ask how you achieved that look - ie. scotch-brite, sandpaper ect. and what grit you ended up with?

^ same question

Thanks guys! I'm happy with how it came out. After trying some higher grits first and working my way down, I ended up just sanding the whole thing with 180 grit emery cloth. That micarta is very tough stuff. The 180 will barely round the edges if you really work at it.

Thanks! I may try that. I really dig the polished look though, so I'm hesitant.

Analysis paralysis!

Looks like you softened the sharp edges ever so slightly. I like that and the satin you achieved. [emoji106]

I wanted to take a more conservative approach to start. Here's 0000 steel wool. This will actually give a little resistance to my thumb now as opposed to the original just sliding along. Almost perfect grip.

That looks great! You can really see the fibers in yours!

Doorbell rang early this morning and awoke me from a dream, Postman cheerfully delivering this Burgundy. :)

The dream continued as I untubed the knife, what a beaut! No dream, just a very nice wake up call. The F&F is exceptional, and this is a Field&Farm utilitarian work-knife. Spring cut off cleanly, tightly knit to the liners no gaps, no blade-play and as far as I can see, centre. Pull is strong but not hard, around 6.5 on my scale (you should try one of my 73s that challenges even me at 9.7, too much indeed! ) I'm very pleased with the Burgundy colour, rich and quite dark. Shown here with my favourite Sour Cherry jam.

Here it is direct from the tube before any wipe down or oiling, it shaves hair from my arm so that's promising. You can see how thick the slabs are, I greatly like this for solidity and for in hand comfort. In springtime, I cut and sharpen pea and bean sticks, quite tough and laborious work, you need a thick comfortable handle for that kind of work and this will excel I'm convinced. I like the pivot detail on these and the flush on open blade/spring. A sturdy yet nicely finished work-horse, looks great too! Delighted all round.

My dealer claims the spring is stainless, I'm not sure about that though, would be useful. Anybody have info on this?

Thanks, Will

I'm jealous, I'm jealous, I'm jealous, :D Mine still stuck somewhere in Roissy Airport. The last km will be the longest to travel!

I think it will be worth the wait JP.

Last week I had a Winchester Coffin Jack that took SIX days to get here from Helsinki (420 kms) longer than from Florida to Helsinki.....:barf::grumpy:

If it's the same as older 71s, they are also steel I believe.
