GEC Cuban Cigar Patterns #53 & #54

I contacted DLT customer service, asked how many of each knife was made. The response - "we had 100 each". Very happy I was able to purchase the only one I wanted, an ironwood : )
If I'd known the quantities were so limited, I wouldn't have even bothered trying.

I much preferred the quantity produced for the Remington Granddaddy Barlow run. There's nothing wrong with being able to buy a nice knife leisurely.

I guess low numbers appeal to some folks' desire for exclusivity, and it definitely appeals to folks trying to resell at a premium, but I care for that claptrap not at all.

I am honestly not a huge GEC person, but the desert ironwood one just spoke to me, and I am well practiced at DLT drops. Looking forward to it! The blue bone was out nearly instantly, no way would anyone have a chance for a second checkout. Elderberry and desert ironwood lasted a smidgen longer, but it was definitely a 60- to 90-second sellout, which was actually not too bad. I've had DLT drops for much smaller quantities - scoring Vehement Knives or Hinderer limited releases is way harder than this GEC drop was.

Went for the desert ironwood hoping it would be the least desirable, sadly my wifi stuttered and I missed out. Hope those lucky enough to score one of these dream knifes enjoy them.

300 total isn't horrible, and while in the last 5 years or so GEC has been mamiing more of each pattern, before then it was much more limited.

I went for a jigged one this time, I have a couple smooth 54's so I figured I'd change it but, although the ironwood looked very tempting.

I got an email that it already shipped so we'll see if I regret the jigged bone come Monday. 😅

To each his own.

Glad you were able to get something you were after.

To me, the competitive aspect is simply a hindrance to enjoyment. I don't need rare objects to make myself feel valuable - only tools good enough to allow me to demonstrate my few and hard-won skills.

As soon as it became a contest to see who could get one, I lost interest. A special new pattern might get me to try to find one on the secondary market, but I'm not in for the release mayhem.
I always strike out when DLT announces the drops beforehand. I do better when it's random email notifications because fewer people are prepared, and my phone can tell me when I get the emails.

I liked the Elderberry but sat this one out and just watched them sell. I think I could have had one if I tried.
